Flashback for Sulu, Real Life for Doctor, Worst Case Scenario for mutiny, The Thaw for creepy clown, Death Wish for Q, Meld for Suder, Revulsion for crazy hologram, Concerning Flight for John Rhys-Davies as Da Vinci, and that's about where I am right now.

Ooooh, Flashback is a good idea. What's the one where the Doctor is brought back to life hundreds of years later and it's Evil Voyager time?

Edit: Just to be clear, I'm down to watch like, one episode of this stupid loving show, maybe three. Not pick it up and watch it through.

^^^Nope. Just Tuvok having flashbacks to his early career.

If we're just picking good episodes, Future's End is basically a decent Star Trek IV ripoff with Ed Begley Jr. and Sarah Silverman.

The original question was in reference to which Voyager episode should be recommended to someone who just wants to watch 2 or 3 episodes. The reply was "Little Green Men", which is a DS9 episode. The response to that was "Why would you do that?", obviously implying that saying that "Little Green Men" was a Voyager episode was a rather cruel joke. And, as LeafyOrb said, the ultimate point of the original reply was "Why watch Voyager when you can watch any given episode of DS9 instead?" Your mistake, therefore, was in taking the implied meaning of "Why would you do that?" literally and failing to get the joke.

Edit: Anyways, my recommendation, as always, is Equinox.

Why isn't The Survivors on every top ten TNG episodes list? I don't remember ever seeing this episode before or hearing people talk about it but I was totally blown away. It's pretty much the perfect Trek mystery episode and the final reveal is amazing. It's also one of the rare occasions when Picard is left speechless. His response is basically "I can't even deal with how hosed this situation is, let's just get the hell out of here."

Maybe this guy that flies is just sort of passing through, you know?

Alright, so having exhausted Good Trek I have turned to Voyager. I am following this watch list to try and avoid the worst of the merely substandard bij, while experiencing the obligitory sublime bij.

Now the pilot was hot, rancid garbage... but you know what?

Eye of the Needle and Prime Factors were fully tolerable Trek that did acceptable Trek things.

Eye of the Needle hooked me with the tiny wormhole and the mystery of what was going to be on the other side, and doled out little developments and rays of plausible hope for the crew that were dashed in unexpected ways. I bought the Romulan dude, and like them dudes in general. His guarded, cynically skeptical caution and the care with which he was won over rung true.

Prime Factors was a decent premise. "What if the shoe was on the other foot with the Prime Directive" got my attention, especially since most Prime Directive episodes turned Picard into a stupid, stupid rear end in a top hat extolling the virtue of genocide by omission of action. hough the execution sort of fell apart in the final minutes with the "it wouldn't have worked anyway" dodge.

Now the characters still aren't fully speaking to me, but Janeway is less aggressively terrible than I remember her. I'm starting to buy her central internal conflict of "Uphold starfleet values at all cost, but also look out for my people at any cost." It doesn't quite have the charm of Picard's urbane diplomacy or Sisko's reluctant, brooding savior bit. But by gum, I'm going to give her another chance if for no other reason than to convince myself I hate it for my own reasons and not because of the goon/trekkie hivemind.

Just watched "Concerning Flight". That was a pretty good episode, I should say. The final bit with the glider was actually really fun, and I just had a big ol' grin on my face seeing their maiden flight! And John Rhys-Davies is a splendid actor -- it was pretty entertaining seeing the hologram of a 16th century man interpreting a futuristic alien society. I think this episode really did a good job of fleshing out the sort of character Janeway is supposed to be.

There's no one I've ever met, no matter how successful they are, who hasn't said they had their failures along the way.

Just one Voyager episode? Okay, the one where Chakotay is unstuck in time, because it touches on all the cool poo poo from the previous seasons. It's like the glossy highlight reel of the series, with Robert Beltran saving the day to top it all off.

The thing I don't get is why in a world with mostly-conquered scarcity and near-perfect fidelity simulations it would be at all desirable to let a cadet crew of untrained but promising young adults loose with minimal supervision in an actual factual state-of-the-art warship during wartime.

If nothing else, I found myself feeling sad for all the crews of decorated veterans that were assigned to Miranda-Class Deathtraps while a bunch of pimple-faced teens were going for a joyride in a Defiant-class Assbeater for On-the-job-training.

Basically the Federation is terrible at everything.

For instance, Bashir is an insubordinate weiner that has no business being on the bridge...ever. And why are they letting Garak do anything on the Defiant at all? He doesn't work for the Federation and is a foreign national AND was an intelligence operative. I guess that's why the Federation's enemies can pretty much do whatever they want.
