Maybe they went through a period in their history where gold was a useful store of wealth and now it's tradition to at least have it as a trapping. Or maybe gold is just AUsome.

Seeing as it survives just fine in Morn's 2nd stomach, I'd say it doesn't react with much of anything. Except for Morn's hair. :edit: Just finished 'One Small Step', and aside from the strange Seven/Chakotay fighting (maybe just laying groundwork for later), there was one thing that really stood out for me. Launching the astronaut into space just seemed wrong to me. Here's this astronaut orbiting Mars, and boom, he's trapped in a subspace thing and transported all the way to the Delta quadrant. If he's going to be buried in space, at least bring him back to the Solar System. I guess it was one of those 'don't have the room' or 'want his remains put to rest in case they're destroyed on the way home'. But it still seemed wrong to me. Other than that, the start of Season 6 is probably the most solid season start of Voyager. "Survival Instinct", "Riddles", "Barge of the Dead", "Tinker Tailor Doctor Spy" (Which just sounds like a DS9 episode starring O'Brien, Garek, and Bashir). We'll see how it goes from here. :edit2: I would wear the poo poo out of a Niners hat. Brute Squad fucked around with this message at 01:52 on Nov 12, 2013 |

Hah. I'm pretty sure it's been said that they had no plans for that. They were up to writing the episode where it happened and Robert Beltran convinced someone he should get to make out with Jeri Ryan.

I realise we're dealing with the Trek show most at odds with its own premise, but the things that went down in this episode really needed to be revisited. It's like the Maquis all over again- desperate people who renounced their code, the survivors being integrated into the Voyager crew, but not a single one of the characters showed up or was even mentioned again.

It's gold-latinum 'alloy' so it's easier to measure out the latinum. Before, they used a dropper and obviously that was pretty stupid. If it was just a gold box for the latinum it wouldn't have that specific clank sound Quark loves so much.

Maybe my sympathy is misplaced, but when I read about minor characters appearing at Trek conventions I sort of wish they could have just done their time in Trek and moved on to other things, you know, and didn't have to put on weirdo alien make-up and ham it up for a bunch of unwashed nerds.quote:Next up, the audience was treated to a visit from DS9 Ferengi Rom and Nog (Max Grodenchik and Aron Eisenberg in full costume and amazing makeup courtesy of makeup genius John Paladin). The characters had a hysterical dialogue with one another, sang a rap song and answered audience questions both in and out of character, much to attendee delight. Rom and Nog were followed by an installment of Creation's No-Minimum Bid Auction, and then William Shatner took to the stage to a thunderous standing ovation. Looking vital and handsome in a crisp blue collared shirt and sports jacket, Bill started by talking about his new progressive rock CD just out on Cleopatra Records (co-host Malin's band XNA's record label) and produced by XNA/CIRCA producer Billy Sherwood (guitarist/songwriter of YES). The album is an ambitious exploration for Shatner and features a renowned team of music artists. Bill also revealed plans to offer his recent one-man performance as a TV or film broadcast. Like, the dude who played Nog is 45 now and hasn't done anything since DS9. There he is up on stage doing a Ferengi Rap. LAFF at the Shatner bit, though, that is just Purestrain Shatner right there.

He may have just hit the end of his natural career. Up to that point, because of his stunted growth, he'd been playing kids for ages, but he wasn't looking so fresh by the end of the show. When you're a gimmick actor and your gimmick is compromised... you don't have much of a career anymore.
