Having had the chance to test a few cases, I've found that the Air imposes a new dynamic on picking one. Because the Air is light enough that you can comfortably hold it one- or two-handed for long stretches, the weight of a case becomes VERY important. I would actually recommend against getting a keyboard case unless you expect to be typing most of the time - you're better off getting a separate keyboard and a case with a stand.

Just picked up a retina mini from the NYC 5th ave Apple Store - it's really as good as you would expect and probably more. Fantastic screen, fast - even noticeably faster than the iPad 4 that I used until recently (albeit the difference isn't substantial). For the last few weeks I've been trying out the 2013 Nexus 7, of which even after replacing once I seemed to have hit the jackpot for QA problems - random reboots/shutdowns, weird battery reporting, can't connect to 5ghz wifi, phantom touches... and the random back button. Glad that's done with. Anyway I got the black smart cover to go along with the mini. I have to say it really isn't as good as the original iPad covers with the metal clasps, especially in the "flat" position since the hinge isn't as secure. Is there a good third party option? The ones I saw in the Apple store were kind of crappy, either too bulky or just low quality.

What's a 64GB Verizon LTE "new iPad" worth these days, in good shape? I'm looking to sell it, but I have a feeling it's not going to be worth as much as I'd like. (Just for the record, I mean this one: iPad 1 - iPad 2 - [new iPad] - iPad 3 )

I have no idea what they go for, but I think you're actually talking about an "iPad 3", though as far as I know neither the iPad 3rd or 4th generation were ever officially numbered. The "iPad 3" was "the new iPad", and then the "iPad 4" was labeled the same, it introduced the lightning connector. Then the Air brings us to the current gen, at least for the full-sized iPads. I think.

Just got home with a new SPACE Grey iPad Air. Not much to say that hasn't been said, this thing is awesome and I much prefer it to the mini. It's light but it's not "Well gently caress me up the rear end and call me a bitch" light, you know? If you're on an iPad 3 or earlier, this thing is absolutely worth it. Edit: aaaaand just experienced my first crash to Apple logo, like a soft reset. Cool. Hadn't seen it on ios7, just checked and it already has iOS 7.03, weird Comfy Fleece Sweater fucked around with this message at 08:45 on Nov 13, 2013 |

Assuming he means 3rd gen, Amazon's trade in value is $210 to $267, Target's is $223, Apple's is $261 to $276. A quick skim on eBay says the going rate there is about $350-400.

OK. Call me Timb but... Does anyone else's Mini Retina screen seem to have really lovely colors? Holding it against my iPad 3 Retina or my iPhone 5s, the greens and reds looks particularly bad. Or is it just me?

Wanted to caution people against the Logitech Ultrathin for iPad Air if you're seeking a keyboard/cover option. I got mine today and it's a flimsy piece of poo poo compared to the old version of the keyboard. When you stick the iPad into the upright slot, the weight bends the entire face of the keyboard up. I'm returning it ASAP for fear that the next time I put the iPad in, the whole top will snap off.

Same here, the difference is easy to notice on any picture with bright colours. It's not very dramatic though, but I am curious on what the professional reviews will show.

From a few reviews/teardowns, the retina mini is clocked at 1.3 GHz like the 5s rather than 1.4 GHz like the Air. Obviously this won't make much real-world difference, and it probably still doesn't throttle as aggressively as the 5s.

Canadians can check in-store quantities and reserve Mini's at https://ireserve.apple.com/CA/en_CA/reserve/iPad/productReservation I picked one up last night. About a 10 minute wait in line. Screen looks great compared to the old Mini. Have not noticed much difference from the 3rd gen iPad, but honestly did not use it enough to get a good feel. Interestingly, I get a large enough voltage drop through a USB extension cable to make the new Mini show "not charging". Have to go straight to the adapter to charge.

You're not only jumping from an A5X chip to an A7, but shrinking weight dramatically. You can easily hold a Mini in one hand.

So this is my first wet apply (best skins ever) but I gotta say, (granted, I just put it on) The glossy front does NOT look very good right now. I'm hoping when it cures, some milky stuff, tiny bubbles (and most importantly, a really moire-ish rainbow look to my screen (like everything is made of colored pixels, for lack of a better term..) goes away.

I really want to cancel my online rMini order and pick up in store but for some reason none of the Vancouver stores have them, nor the greater Vancouver stores. Yet Toronto has loads. This makes no sense, we're closer to China. But in all seriousness, of all the stores I've looked at, the 64gb has the most availability. I wonder why no one is going for that one?

Glossy skins were never good. It's just poo poo your threw on back in the day because "omg protection against scratches!" and poo poo. Definitely give it some more time to dry but if it's milky, you probably have too much water under there. Obviously this is going to be notice a lot more since you're staring at the display with light shining through but hopefully the excess liquid should dry out. I just put a matte back on my Air and it came out very well. I am used to applying these drat wet apply skins though so it wasn't an issue for me because I know what to expect and how to apply it. The corners probably took the best of any device I've had to apply these on. With the exception of the feel and the edges, if you took a glance at it you'd never even know it was there.

Application went well. Having to kind of coax and work the corners as they slowly dry/adhere. The front is glossy. Ive had glossy fronts on all my devices dating back to iPhone 1 and never seen a sort of rainbow pixel look. Its possible, I suppose, I used too much water, but honestly, after reading up on tips and watching the official video, I was actually wondering if I'd been too conservative with it. We'll see in about a day, I guess? [edit] Also I am having trouble relating to your first sentence. Glossy screens were ALWAYs good, as matte screens always murk up the retina displays. Glossy Screens (for me) have always been extensions of the existing screen. Not noticeable in the slightest except around the holes for the camera and such where you would notice the raised nature of the extra layer's edges.

Bare screen on anything else because I just did not like the look and feel of the skin on the screen surface.

I'd say there are the cheap people who get 16 gigs (= me with the mini), the somewhat less cheap people who want some space for apps and media who get 32 gigs, and the all out / pack-rat people who get 128 gigs (= me with the Air). 64 is just caught in between now.
