It's used in both movies. I think the opening scene of "28 Weeks Later" uses it. To further this, the first teaser for "Avatar" uses a track from "28 Weeks Later".

Certainly looks more exciting that anything our film industry has shat out in the last few years (Ok The Sapphires was pretty good but still).

Looks goddamn amazing. Hopefully not being restricted to the one location (I'm assuming) like the first one will make for some even more awesome scenes and creative fights.

Hercules is:

A Gladiator(???)
Has lightning powers(?)
Has a Samson scene for some reason.
Other weird poo poo I'd remember if I watched the trailer for than once.

There were not even Roman style Gladiatorial fights in the time of Heracles :goonsay:

Not surprised there is a Samson scene because I've noticed in a lot of Greek Adaptations they kind Juedo-Christianize them, for example Hades in Hercules is turned into basically the devil when he was just a gloomy guy whose only big story was stealing Persephone and being a douche to Orpheus.

A pity because an epic sword sandal film about the myth of Heracles would be pretty awesome, one of the best stories of personal redemption imo. That and I want to see Heracles beat the poo poo out of things with a club made out of an uprooted tree :allears:

Hey, I think he gave Orpheus a fairer shake than anyone ever. He had one simple rule and the harpist couldn't follow it. Sure, Hades might have done that just to stop the dead from can-canning all over the place, but not everyone gets an easy trick to reviving their dead wives.

You're right that adaptations of classical myths like to fit them into an Abrahamic context, though I think you're wrong to consider Hades a devil figure in most of these. When you need a villain god from the Greeks and it has to be someone major enough for the audience to know who they are you've got two of them: Hades and Ares. The rest of them may be colossal dicks but the god of war and the guy in charge of the underworld are the ones who have an obvious negative connotation for the audience. For example, I don't think Hades in the recent Clash of the Titans remake was really a devil stand-in.

When I watched that Hercules trailer I was thinking "Oh, this is the 'realistic' one," for 80% of the trailer and then he started catching lightning and throwing it around. I'm dubious that this is going to be better than the 1980 Hercules movies and that's a pretty low bar to get over.

Man a pity that its a lost epic because its apparently considered the biggest story before the Trojan Cycle. Plus it shows how much a badass Diomedes because first he vowed to avenge his brain eating father at the age of 4 then went into said war at the age of 14. I also find it funny that he is probably the most honorable, bravest, and greatest of all Greek Warriors and wasn't even a demigod which means he didn't have to die a horribly tragic death and also wasn't a gigantic rear end in a top hat. I mean his stories in the Trojan War were probably a separate epic, but they somehow got fused into the Iliad and goddamn it his parts are the best :allears:

Maleficent is directed by Peter Stromberg, the two-time Oscar-winning production designer for Avatar, Alice in Wonderland, and Oz the Great and Powerful, so we know what kind of aesthetic they're going for here. His father was the auteur behind cult favorite The Crater Lake Monster (released on Blu-Ray!)

Oh :smith:

I was really intrigued by the premise and I still think Jolie's Maleficent will be fun to watch, but Alice in Wonderland was just the worst and I never saw Oz, but I personally just really do not enjoy that aesthetic at all. It makes crazy dollars so I can't really blame them but I wish they'd move away from it.

I love that they're using the Disney logo castle as the Sleeping Beauty castle.

Also, that wall of thorns didn't look very threatening. I mean, if the thorn is as big as I am, it's not exactly the right size to tear me up and ruin my day.

Otherwise, I guess that's all pretty cool.

I'll give it a shot sooner or later, but I just skimmed the plot summary and don't have high hopes. Either way, Oz in and of itself didn't put me off so much as that 'everything is CGI and cardboard' aesthetic. I find it so distracting.

I know that Aronofsky has been getting a lot of pushback from the studio on this, but this looks terrible. I hope this trailer is really just a cynical attempt to downmarket this. It's particularly impressive to see how awful the SFX look (requisite reminder that "it's probably not done yet!") compared to The Fountain.

Russell Crowe's deadpan, unaffected delivery used to work for things like Gladiator and The Insider, but I feel like where he's supposed to be emitting pathos he's just emitting boredom.

The Disney logo castle was taken from the Sleeping Beauty castle originally so it fits.
