is there even such a thing as "right colour"? have you ever had a colouring job where you said "yes, that's perfect"?
|
# ? Nov 13, 2013 02:24 |

I mean, there's linear color space that's scientifically "right" too bad monitors are terrible at displaying it

you can have bad color, that's for sure

pagancow posted:also the guys explanation of "this doesn't fit within rec.709" is kind of a misnomer because if the customer at home has the 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio TV and it's actually jacked up, then all kinds sphincter ripping, retinal tearing, colors be coming out of "rec.709" ok so are colourspaces like, in reality poo poo can be super bright and contrasty, i mean if it cant exist in the physical realm then it cant be in a colour space right and this sec790 thing, records a portion of what it can physically see. if colours are more full on than what it can record then its essentially clipped, at maximum saturation or whatever woah

# ? Nov 13, 2013 04:15 |

What i'm saying is that rec.709 says what wavelength the light should look like when it shoots out the display. if your tv's displaying all kinds of hosed up then welp.

which makes it all the more puzzling why that guy i talked about even owns one, he really doesn't need it, especially when he doesn't know how to use it for his business could've paid 2 grand for a camera instead and had saved money. i think the only reason people pay lots of money for technology they don't understand is because of penis size YVCPOS truths

people will just spend a dumb amount of money on stupid poo poo i had to yell at some rear end in a top hat dad because he couldnt figure out how to make his 580ex flash work on his 5d3 so instead of turning it off or bouncing it off the ceiling he would either point it directly at his lovely kid on stage 20 feet away or point it directly backwards and repeatedly blinding those of us behind him

we have an fs700 and i'm fond of it. looks better than our ~20k cameras that definitely do not shoot in 120/240fps. i dont really know a goddamn thing about cameras though. definitely something i need to catch up on. all i know is i just colored a show where they used the fs700 and it's slomo stuff looked way better than our XD cams. If you shoot AVCHD you'll need to learn how to master the black gamma setting if you're moving indoor/outdoor alot, The rest of it you don't really need to touch much. If you shoot RAW then welp. pm me if you need expert opinion about camera.

so would using an FS700 and recording to AVCHD be better for you than shooting on the FS700 but recording to a Black Magic Hyperdeck Shuttle? they do 10-bit 'uncompressed' but I don't know if it is true 10-bit or the fake kind you mentioned earlier. i mean obviously the shuttle will give you the most to work with, but is it a nightmare to transcode and work with that poo poo?

FS700 SDI out is 8-bpc only All SDI is 10-bit word, but the data you are recieving is 8-bpc. You need the sony raw recorder or some box from convergant design that will take raw, debayer it, and shove it into some 10-bit stream if you want to do 10-bpc AVCHD and taking the 8-bpc over SDI is very little difference unless your filming a rainstorm at f8 or someting ungdodly sharp and changing full screen.

pagancow posted:FS700 SDI out is 8-bpc only what about the liar camera makers saying their hdmi outs are uncompressed, theres no chance in hell of that being true, so what the hell are you even recording with one of those Shuttle/Atmos Ninja things? technically 8 bit but encoded in a massive 10 bit format?
|
# ? Nov 15, 2013 02:48 |

HDMI is usually 4:2:2 8-bpc uncompressed. Some devices can output higher bit-depths and RGB data. people running FCP7 like to encode into higher bitdepth formats becuase FCP is dumb and will only work in the color space as your clips. It's the reason why Premiere Pro tries to do everything at 32-bpc internally even to 8-bpc clips. You could blow out a clip with a levels adjustment and still bring it back with a curves adjustment. High end color grading softwares like Davinci Resolve, Speedgrade, and Scratch work this way. ~its designer centric~ pagancow fucked around with this message at 04:49 on Nov 15, 2013 |

the backscreen should be clear with a projector projecting rapidly changing colours and then the computer can work out what is the background and what is not, in a way that would mean a person could wear anyone colour and it would work
