I'm looking for some kind of statement being made in that comic and all I can come up with is, "Christopher Reeve was an actor who made some movies!"

At least Rock and Roll Comics always had the same message in all their books: "Musician is totally awesome and had to fight against every ignorant person and corrupt industry insiders out to destroy them to achieve success. If musician is part of a group, only one person was cool and everyone else is a loser who'd be nothing without them."

It's so niche, I wonder if a 'biography comics' thread would even be worth starting or just piggybacking on another thread. In the 90s they seemed a bit of a big thing with Rock and Roll comics, you still have some modern ones, then in the 60-80s you probably had a lot of educational "Life of..." books put out to talk about various historical figures.

The only good Bluewater celebrity comics I know of are the Lady Gaga and Stephanie Meyer ones, because you can tell the writers were actually trying to do something interesting with those. The Lady Gaga one features a fat music snob who becomes obsessed with Gaga's music and then dresses up like her in a McDonalds, which makes Gaga recruit him into her Haus of Gaga. The Stephanie Meyer one is narrated by none other than Dracula himself.

I mean I guess there's something going on with Jane Seymour in the movie theater scene, and her again in Somewhere in Time, but wow it seems pretty shallow and not at all connected with the script. Maybe I'm just not clever enough to get it but it seems like the writer was trying to say something about fictional characters overlapping into real life and vice versa but - is the movie theater thing with Seymour a real thing that happened? It seems so forced and improbable.

e: I guess I should say something about the art? Photos with really ugly Photoshop filters is really lovely.

Campbell's a local legend here. I die a little every time I realize the head shot sketch I have of his is worth more than probably any page from Ryan Kelly I own.

I hate admitting it, but he's the only artist's work I collect purely for possible investment potential.

I've always thought that Artgerm is a superb artist.

However is hard to tell what is the extent of his skill since he seems to be limited to promotional art and covers. The closer that I've seen to him do traditional comic book art are these comission pieces:

Sometimes his art slips into uncanny valley though

Artgerm's covers and pin-ups and promotional things are really great-looking. I don't think he's ever going to do interiors, but it seems like nowadays there are a lot of artists who don't really do interiors much if at all.

It was a pretty big deal when he did like two or three pages for Fables: 1001 Nights of Snowfall.

Similarly, according to Ethan VanSciver, they won't pull the trigger on a Plastic Man series is because his page rate is too high. His said his contract is up soon, so maybe they'll be able to renegotiate.

What's really terrible about that anatomy wise is not even that she has knees, it's that she only has ONE knee (the right side). It's like he started out with a pretty mundane girl chained up cheesecake thing and then when he was 90% done he said, oh hey I'll paint a fish tail over the feet, that'll be cool. Also how the gently caress can the fin articulate?

Occurs to me that maybe she has two fishtailed legs? Where's the other one? :iiam:

Since we're talking about cheesecake artists, I want to share with you guys one of my favorite mexican artists: Oscar Bazaldua :mexico:

The majority of his work is really unorthodox since he was cover artist for our versions of the tijuana bibles, the infamous 'Chambeadoras' comics:

Despite this provocative covers, the comics itself were rather tame (and with awful interiors) being more satyrical and humorous that pornographic.

As many of the artists discussed here he's more of a cover artist with one of his most recent work being cover for the defunct 'Místico' (now Sin Cara) comic book series

:haw:

I met him a few months ago when part of his work was compiled on an artbook and back then he announced that he was working with Les Hummanoides Associes drawing the sequel for a story called Horlemonde.

While his interiors aren't nearly as detailed as his covers I still think that they're above the average

Lastly, a rough sketch that I got of him back then :v:

What gets me isn't even a "bad" art problem so much as a bad artist problem. The way the hips are drawn are shaped like a two-legged woman, crease and all. And why that's terrible is between that and the shading, it becomes obvious to me that he drew it this way to get past the old "Why couldn't she have the top half of a fish, and the bottom half of a lady?!" gag. ie, the fishtail doesn't start til after the naughty bits.

Also, I'd like to point out that for the Oz picture, he forgot to fix the feet to be wearing ruby slippers on Generic Hot Farm Girl Dorothy Gale.
