I think it might be intended to refer to the pairs of characters in the last case - Athena and Blackquill, Apollo and Terran, Phoenix and Edgeworth. But who knows really.

I think there's a strong argument that the Dual Destinies refers to Phoenix and Blackquill, actually. They were the two people involved in the two cases that damaged the people's trust in the courts and brought about the "Dark Age of the Law", and Phoenix even makes a big deal about him and Blackquill taking down the Phantom as a way of trying to fix that.

Really, though, there are several pairs of characters you could tie into the title, and most likely none of them are really "wrong" or anything.

I beat Dual Destinies a few weeks ago and loved it. I'm probably going to get the DLC as well.

I sat down to try and reflect on the series so far and compare DD to the rest of the games, but the strange thing is I don't remember a whole lot about Apollo Justice's game in general. I've beaten them all, but I guess Apollo Justice seemed the most forgettable to me.

Well, there is one thing I'll never forget from Apollo Justice, and that is in the final case where I found out I'd actually be deciding on the verdict of the case with the Juror System that Phoenix introduced. I'll never forget this because I was really excited when I got so close to the end. Excited enough that I accidentally clicked "Guilty" and got the bad ending, causing Vera to die and never have a real verdict. I felt lovely until I could reload the game, get all the way back to where I was, and click "Innocent".

With that said, I appreciate how Dual Destinies has the "Try Again" and auto-save feature for those few times I got a Game Over. That way I wouldn't have to just rush through a bunch of text to get back to where I was like in the older titles.

To this day I have no idea how you get a translation whose quality is this terrible while still getting the character names correct relative to the official English versions, and the use of terms like "Oh snap!" and "Cool beans!"

There used to be a hilarious review of this on court-records.net but it seems to have been lost forever.

Literally everything you need to know about AJ to play DD: Phoenix got disbarred but later cleared his name, adopted a daughter, and took on Apollo as his protege. Also a (possibly fake) German prosecutor showed up at some point.

They gloss over most of AJ, which I'm fine with.

They set out to make a game that you didn't need to complete the previous entries to enjoy, so it's a good place to get back into the series. And if you don't plan on going back and playing 3 and 4, you can read their plot synopses here.

I noticed the same trend, but it led me to a radically different conclusion.

3 was just "witness is the villain", 4 was "the mentor did it" and I counted case 1-5 as its own story with "investigator did it". I ended up suspecting that AA5 was gonna be "the sidekick did it". It was kinda dashed when Athena turned out to be a playable character, but I wasn't sure she would be innocent at all until the Phantom was properly established. It made Apollo's suspicions all the more dramatic.

Not really, the game focuses mainly on its own arc. As a sequel, it's most closely connected with Apollo Justice, but I think whatever you needed to know from AJ is explained anyway.

If you haven't played 3 (T&T), though, you really should at some point. I can understand not doing so now due to being burned out on lawyer antics, but seriously, it's got some great payoff if you did the first two.

I'd say that the "sidekick culprit" trick was already done in 4-1. That wasn't a finale, but it was a finale villain.

For next time I'm kindof hoping they go with making it a witness, but a witness who you cross-examine early and then dismiss.

No, you cannot. But you will get a fairly reasonable explanation for exactly why she is so fragile, and in future titles she's likely to be far less so.

Foul villain! I do not flee. I will never turn my back on you and run away!

[he says, running away]
Oh man, what an ending. (ENDGAME SPOILERS) You don't get much more anime than having the final piece of evidence be THE SECRET TOKEN OF LOVE THAT WAS WITH YOU ALL ALONG and having all three protagonists do a dramatic camera-sweep-and-point. Which is not to say that it wasn't completely loving awesome.

Two cents and entire game spoilers: I don't think I am quite able to judge fairly yet because I'm still reeling from the twist that the man you thought was Bobby Injusticewetrust Fulbright is actually the most monstrous villain in the entire series (Seriously, dude has a higher bodycount and life-ruining count than Dahlia loving Hawthorne!), but right now I do feel like this is one of the better games in the series, if not the absolute best. I'd pinpoint the writing as one of the major causes for that, but it so desperately needed a proofreader that I'm not actually sure it is, though I do think the writing itself is excellent.

My sister described it as taking the best parts from each previous entry and expanding on them. Like how I believe Apollo had potential, he just dreadfully failed to live up to it in his title game and was basically just Not-Phoenix, but he reached and surpassed that potential in this game with aplomb. The moment in the final trial when his theme starts playing and he desperately shouts at Phoenix to prove him wrong because he wants so badly to trust Athena is in the running for my favorite moment in the entire series. It helps that his theme became incredibly loving awesome.

I mentioned before that this was the first AA game I've gone into completely blind, so before I knew stuff like (AA2)Engarde was actually guilty and also incredibly evil and (AA4)Kristoph is the reason behind everything. So it was a real pleasure to actually be genuinely surprised by the major twists in this game. (5-4)Athena's fingerprints blew my mind. I actually thought that was one of the biggest twists in the series. (5-5)Right up until, y'know, Fulbright.

My main issue with the phantom is that...he wasn't actually Fulbright. I do see and understand what they were going for, in that he's more of an idea than an actual person, a representation of ~*~THE DARK AGE OF THE LAW~*~, and exposing and catching him at all is more important than who he actually is. I just feel like the personal betrayal would have been more effective for me. That the goofy catchphrase-spouting cop actually had a ridiculous hidden agenda to ruin everyone's lives. Already, the moments where Fulbright activates Blackquill's taser shackles are a lot darker in hindsight. The fact that the real Bobby Fulbright was actually dead was disappointing for me, not really because of reasons people already said earlier, but because it was sort of reversing the previous huge twist. The real Fulbright was probably really that earnest, and the phantom had just been pretending. It feels like it would have been a lot darker and more effective if the real Fulbright actually was this dark sinister mastermind of the dark age of the law covered by the goofy justice catchphrasing. It would've made one of Phoenix's lines in the last case (something like "After all you've done, how dare you use the word justice!") stick better.

But the showdown was still awesome, and the game was still awesome. I think the middle cases were some of the series' best in terms of not being useless filler like 2-4, 3-2, and 3-3. I really hope there's more to come.

Also, something my sister pointed out: (MAIN VILLAIN SPOILERS)While replaying 5-2, she noticed that when Jinxie first meets Fulbright, she slaps a charm on him and screams "A ghost!" Combined with the protruding scar on his right hand, I think there's probably a lot more foreshadowing about Fulbright's true nature than we first think.
