I don't know how podcasts work exactly but I have the index of old shows saved in my podcast app, and it's still able to download the actual audio from feedburner, so the data is there but you just can't get at it maybe?

Holy poo poo, I'm sure this has been mentioned (haven't seen so myself though) but I just got to episode 166 and at about 52:40, the dudes basically jokingly predicted that Michael Jackson was going to die, a victim of his hectic ambitious tour and his terrible state.

After that podcast it took only 42 days before he actually died. I know it wasn't exactly a crazy notion that MJ could die at any time considering how hosed up he was, but UYD was definitely timely in bringing it up.

I can post that torrent if this goes on for too long. But like someone said earlier, I don't want to jack any of their traffic numbers up.

I feel you on making sure not to sap away from possible iTunes downloads/numbers for the dudes, but man I would kill to get a copy of your UYD folder. I've really wanted to download all the shows and have them archived and in proper order/tagging since I got into the show, but it's quite a lot of poo poo to deal with, and I've never gotten around to it.

My point is, as someone who's already downloaded the shows from iTunes many times and turned on more than a few people to the show, I'd really love to have an archival copy of all the shows and feel it'd be guilt free for dudes like me. It'd be nice to not have to deal with iTunes to listen to the show anymore. However I know it's not possible to ensure everyone who grabs the torrent is in the same boat, so, yeah. If you don't wanna do it I understand, I'll just have to pull all the eps myself someday.

edit: Oops sorry for the 2 posts in a row. Didn't remember I had the last post.

Hard to tell, really. It goes through, at least, Episode 200 but there's a lot of songs missing because Spotify didn't have them back when I was working on it. No idea if that's changed.

Man I loving love when Jah does his rasta horn noise thing. That poo poo kills me every time. I need to make it my ringtone or something. First I need to track down his absolutely best rasta horn in the catelog. I'm taking suggestions.

Also, holy crap Jah is so terrible at horse/weed/minds eye. I don't know horse names or weed names but I still manage to get the answers right 9/10 times because they are usually pretty obvious with a little knowledge of Seth's podcast personality. Jah smokes weed or used to so should have an advantage there, and barely ever gets any right. I think to be fair his history of psychedelic use and, well, general brain power (love you dawg but you ain't the sharpest tool in the shed) likely makes it hard to keep three random phrases in mind while analyzing and breaking them down, so he just kind of gives up and says whatever a lot of the time.

Which kinda sucks because it makes the game usually a somewhat boring and low key affair, and not that funny. Well, other than Seth's usual glee regarding the names he comes up with or tricking Jah. Not saying it needs Jah to win to be entertaining, just he needs to get into it a bit more, and both need to fill in the dull dead air when Jah is thinking. Maybe having them written down for him to look at would help ease the mental strain of remembering all the names for comparison. That way They can both riff on the names while Jah is thinking about the answer, and Seth doesn't have to repeat the names for him 5 times. I'll stop now because I doubt they even do the bit anymore. My perspective is up to around ep 170.

Anyway, It ain't no Rockbusters that's for drat sure. Or Songs of Phrase. Or even the one recorded appearance of Cheap as Chimps!

Bit off topic but there any other Ricky/Steve/Karl + UYD fans up in here? The XFM shows are still easily my favorite radio show/podcast/radio comedy show/whatever of all time. UYD is obviously a comfortable 2nd place for sure.

I've never really liked horse/weed/mind's eye, mostly for the reasons you stated (I mean, I don't hate it either, but it [or more accurately, Jonathon] can be a little annoying sometimes).

The best thing to come out of it though is when they read on air a chatlog of two fans mocking the segment. The guys were good-natured about it and able to laugh at themselves - despite being maybe a bit embarrassed - because they seemed to realize that they couldn't really argue with any of their points.

Right here; The Ricky Gervais Show is kind of how I stumbled upon UYD. After I finished binging through all of the XFM/RGS/Guide To... episodes, I Googled for similar podcasts to keep me entertained at work and saw some website that mentioned Ricky calling UYD (which they played sometime around episode 100?). Then I saw they had a thread here and the rest is history

It's a tough call which show is better. Even though Karl Pilkington is hilarious as hell, I might give the edge to UYD since they've kept it going much longer without losing what makes the show special.

UYD is far better - I find Karl Pilkington and Ricky Gervais jarringly unfunny. It has all the trappings of 'British jokes being British' to me, which I am very fed up of as a Brit. Plus, Jah and Seth just feel so much more real and genuine - even if Seth seems to be playing a different character every episode.

Although I hate being super negative in such an awesome thread, just chipping in to say that I really, really dislike the Ricky Gervais podcasts: probably a mix of an intense hatred for Karl Pilkington (who I also find terribly unfunny), really not enjoying hearing people relentlessly bullying someone (even good-naturedly) and the fact that Ricky Gervais has gradually morphed into one of the more awful celebrities on the planet (I'm just glad that all his output is now as awful and unfunny as he is).

On the British radio front (and on a more upbeat note) Adam & Joe's 6Music show, and the podcasts thereof, are absolutely glorious.

Yeah, that is kind of my take on it all put more eloquently.

I also have a tendency to dislike a lot of BBC (or just British in general) comedy productions these days to - it is all too incestuous, with the same cycle of guests and hosts bouncing from project to project. It is tired.

But then, the same thing can be seen in the podcasting scene in general - Marc Maron has his group of cycling 'friends' and so does the Nerdist. Somehow, UYD, despite not changing at all since 2007, has managed to avoid a lot of the negative connotations that come with comedy. I think a big part of that might be the way in which they work - no guests, no bullshit. They don't do 'leg ups' or further some crappy boys club sort of system that exists, they exist outside of it.

Leaky boners to the front of the queue.

Is it possible that they're planning on making those older episodes cost money? I mean, these old episodes would be removed from iTunes, feedburner, and the AV Club at roughly the same time, maybe they're going to try another way of making money off the podcast and follow the model some podcasts do as far as making episodes of a certain age cost money.
