I've been watching Voyager lately. It's not as bad as I remember but it's just so aggressively bland and forgettable. Kate Mulgrew's doing the best she can with terrible material and direction, Robert Picardo is having fun, and Jeri Ryan is out-acting everyone else. Voyager always had my favorite opening too.

I always figure the Defiants to be a mass deployed ship. You'd deploy them in squadrons to escort larger task forces. Picket ships with big teeth and good survivability. But not something deployed solo in a combat situation. At least, if Starfleet knew what they were doing. And don't get me started on the Enterprise theme. I hate it with the fury of a thousand suns. Closing theme was nice, minus the 'Super-cool' electric guitar wails.

I asked this in the GBS thread but noone there really knew. Was there a stated reason DS9 didn't have any Borg episodes? Or did it just not happen? Besides the first episode anyway. Also, that "designing Voyager" link is hilarious. Drexler's designs looked like hilariously inappropriate turds, and the main design paths they followed were just terrible. Trying to force in a saucer seperation for no reason, using leftover pieces from the Runabout and Excelsior kits, just horrible. Yeah, Voyager looks kind of derpy in the end, but it almost had an AWACS tower with a second ship docked on it

The Akira, Steamrunner, and Saber all show up in DS9 (as do the Defiant, Miranda, and Nebula, which were also in FC). I'll admit the small size and long nacelles would make it look terrible if it was banking or rolling, but it looks like it's going 100 km/h when it's standing still. I kinda wish they'd included it as an actual ship class (instead of, say, that horrific kitbash of an Intrepid saucer, Constitution nacelles, Danube pylons, and the body of an F-14). I remember reading somewhere that Ron Moore felt the Borg were overused, even before Voyager doomed them. That said, there could easily have been a good Borg filler episode; it would have been nice to see different threats to the Federation (or at least the spectre of them) instead of DOMINION DOMINION DOMINION (and sometimes Klingons). I'd take anything they did with the Borg over "The Muse."

If they had made it fit into the rest of the show, I might have forgiven them, but they never introduced anything to support it. Not background wise, not in-universe wise (I still want to hear a couple of crewman play "The NX Blues" before one of their movie nights). The theme was nonsensical to me and I hate it for that. My hatred is totally irrational and pointless, but I still have it. I've learned to live with it, because I can live with it. I'm loving the DS9 Borg show ideas, and it makes me wish that Sisko was captaining the Defiant in First Contact, just so we'd have a forgiveness scene with Picard. I think it could've been a good moment of Sisko going "I finally forgive you" and Picard going "I still haven't forgiven myself". Or maybe I just want to see Avery Brooks on the big screen.
