It is a tough thing to judge. Bridgewater would be my ideal pick, but there's obviously no guarantee that the Vikings will be able to get him, especially with a tie that ruins all tie breakers.

The good news is that the Texans and Jags are the main competition for picking a QB that high. Both of them are also two win teams, but they play each other again this year. If the Jags win again, my hope is that Case Keenum starts to look like he did in his first couple of games and the Texans would take Clowney over a QB if they got number one.

I don't see a game that's overtly winnable by the Vikings in the last 5, but any given Sunday and whatnot. Both the Texans and Jags play the Titans, and the Jags also play the Bills and Browns.

Atlanta could also draft ahead of the Vikings, but the only way that takes a QB off the board would be from them trading down. The only fear would be them taking Clowney at one and that pushing the Texans towards a QB.

I hate rooting for my team to lose, but things need to change. Leslie Frasier is a cool dude, but not a great head coach. They have stuck with Ponder way too long based on him putting together decent stretches at the right time, and I hope Spielman goes down with that sinking ship. Also I die a little inside every time I see Bill Musgrave holding that loving index card of offensive plays.

My gut feeling is that Frazier and Musgrave are gone, but that Spielman will get another chance. Spielman has only had full control for the past years and both drafts have been strong, though his insistence on building through the draft and not supplementing the process with mid-level FAs has definitely made things worse in the short term. You could also argue that Frazier and much of the current coaching staff are a holdover from the Childress era, so while they got rid of a toxic personality in Childress, not much else has changed.

As for the rest of the season, we'll see how it plays out. I want them to start getting young guys more playing time and get dead ends like Henderson, Mitchell, Guion, Johnson, and Ponder off of the field. I'd like to see what Freeman can do now that he's had a chance to learn the offense, but it seems like Frazier will likely ride out Ponder until the bitter end.

His size makes him look like a OLB but I've read he's not really suited to play the position so IDK

If he can play the position, then I'd feel super comfortable with a front 7 of Watt, whoever, Smith (on a new, much cheaper deal), Clowney, Cushing, Reed, Mercilus

Also, if the coaching staff changes they could convert defensive schemes too for all we know. It's not like JJ Watt would suddenly start sucking if he played DT full time, and then they could let Smith walk to save the cap space.

I sincerely doubt that Watt's ability would be compromised by sliding him slightly further inside the line and putting a generational talent next to him if you have the opportunity to draft one, but hey I'm not a DC so what do I know.

Watt manages to be a monster pass rusher at DE in a 3-4 on a team that where he is pretty much the only real pass rushing threat, I think he'll be fine at 4-3 DT or DE

Remember that sack-forced fumble-fumble recovery tornado he pulled against the Cardinals? He was lined up at at the LDE spot in the nickle formation. Wade's thrown that formation out a few times this season.

The Texans defense is like how most 3-4 defenses were back in the late 80s/early 90s, you have your LDE playing a single gap technique on the RT and then the ROLB playing the wing on the other side. That's why most of the really good defenses from that era had both an elite DE and an elite OLB (Smith/Bennett, Smith/Thomas, Marshall/Taylor, etc). If the Texans wanted to they could easily play Clowney in the OLB role (he'd be fine) on the opposite side of Watt. That'd be a pretty scary tandem.

Nix from Notre Dame is pretty well thought of I think, although the only thing I know about him is watching him get shoved around a lot of the game against Alabama last year (not that Bama's line didn't have ridiculous talent on it).

Oh now that I look him up he just had knee surgery, apparently he's had tendinitis in it all season. No idea if that'll be an ongoing thing but it's something to worry about with a 6'2" 357 lb :stare: man.
