The Kazakhstani government was none too pleased with the Borat character, thought it was denigrating to their national character. I imagine that that wouldn't have allowed it. But on the other hand, if not for Borat, most americans would remain ignorant that there is such a place as Kazakhstan, so maybe they did win in the end.

I feel like the Americans labeling Europe are a lot more embarrassing than the Brits labeling the US states, since those are just internal divisions and not actual countries. On the other hand, most people probably don't play games where they stare at a map of Europe for hours and hours for fun.

That was their initial reaction, but they've warmed up to it a lot since; it's massively increased their tourist industry, and as you said, just put them on the map in general. Some of my extended family is Kazakh and they absolutely adore Borat. It's kinda funny.

Years of Paradox gaming have made me an exceptional expert at political geography. At least on the country level, plus the US states and Canadian provinces. It would make my maps incredibly boring because everything would be correctly labelled. Someone make one which tasks us to name the states and territories of India or something.

Globetrotter XL only gives you one try and gives you points for being close, but you're trying to locate specific cities. At higher levels they replace the political map with a terrain map without borders. Finally, Where on Earth? is basically the same as Globetrotter XL except you're locating specific buildings.
