Warframe is the worst game I've ever enjoyed. The nearest thing I can compare it to is when I got addicted to watching Project Runway.

It's a great game to shut off your brain and shoot dudes. I haven't played since maybe update 8? but I have a hankering to play it again. To any newbies, my biggest advice is to buy yourself an orokin catalyst (or whichever is the item that doubles the mod capacity in warframes) and slot that into your starter warframe. Being able to play around with a lot more mods makes the game a lot more fun and it's worth the $1 or whatever that it costs.

I can't quite parse what it's all about in the end, other than running from A to B, killing a few enemies and not really seeing anything but some XP bars fill up. I've only been playing a couple weeks, but I'm pretty sure the goals of this game are A) Convince your friends to play, listen to their endless complaints while logging in hours by the dozens B) Get enough credits to drop those 5000c fireworks on their corpses everytime they die before you revive them I have four friends who I got into the game less than a week ago. They all have at least a Syndana and one went so far into the Platinum thing they had a Nekros, Soma and that Stalker bow before they knew that polarity existed "I'm going to try that Nekros thing again now that I know how to fit more than one mod on it"

Let's all be honest here. Warframe is, as of right now, not a good game, and its 4/10 is about the score it deserves when judged alongside full games, which any game should be if its developers feel they can start taking money, beta or not. The reason people have logged hundreds of hours into it is because it combines the visceral fun of a shooter and near zero chance of failure past the first couple hours with mindless repetition and making bars go up (usually 7 bars at once!) It requires no more time commitment than maybe 10-20 minutes for a round with some guaranteed progress and reward at the end. It is the Lay's potato chip of gaming. Edit: Also watching pubbies flail away at Ruk never stops being hilarious. If I knew anything about recording video game stuff and doing anything with youtube other than watching, I'd have to make a PUBBIES INTENSIFIES video showing exactly that. chumbler fucked around with this message at 22:33 on Dec 3, 2013 |

Cathair posted:Just parsing this out to better illustrate how strange this post is. My conclusion is that it is both terrible for those reasons and great despite those reasons. I don't think its input system is something to be copied, but the result has merit and should be emulated in a less alienating and demanding way. And blocking isn't that bad. It's just left vs right, up vs down from a human perspective. It gets complicated when you combine up+left or turning 180 degrees to block charged attacks, and because player position matters you can do all kinds of confusing poo poo for the other player to interpret. It is just a simple vector operation to determine if it is blocked or not, but that's not how anyone learns the system because no one ever explained it that way. In practice that hardly matters in gun games, because guns are what matters and blocking is only relevant in a few outlier situations. Some of the top players in 1v1/tdm were very bad with swords. edit: GunZ videos for people who never played. Gosu highlight video. One of the top NA players from back in the day. Tiger/twinkan highlight clip shows one of the best EU players, probably the best 1v1, playing tdm mostly. A video of a 1v1 in gunz. It shows off the freedom of movement alright from a practical perspective. There's probably better videos if you just want to see what is possible with movement or some of the mechanics, but those more or less capture the gameplay and all use players I played with. I also played Gunz and I agree the controls were pretty awesome. The best way to explain it is just that it felt like it had a great flow to the game, where as Warframe feels pretty clunky. I felt like I was fighting in the Matrix when I played Gunz. How do you get extractors? I don't remember seeing blueprints on the shop or anything in the dojo. Also i thought someone mentioned that you can farm stalker somehow, is it possible to do that on the PS4 and if so what mission is it? The coolest part of Gunz was the crazy wallclimbing where you cancelled wallwalks with slashes and poo poo but I never really got the hang of it.

Azran posted:Company of Heroes 2 is not a good game. The thread for it is basically dead, averaging 1 post per month. From that two sentence summary, it sounds like CoH2 is a boring, plain bad. Nothing to talk about there. Then you have fascinatingly bad, the real trainwreck games that only have spectator atrocity value going for them: Ride To Hell, Rogue Warrior, Stalin vs Martians, and the like. You don't play these games, you victimize a friend into playing it while everyone else watches and yells "WHY?!" at the 70s giving itself rugburn to the tune of Mickey Rourke swearing at Soviet Speed Techno. I would characterize Warframe as bad but disproportionately engrossing. The mechanical problems are often being overridden to some degree by the experiential effects of "oh my god I am filling up all these progress bars at once" and "I AM EXPLODING SO MANY DUDES RIGHT NOW" and "What is that thing I don't know what that thing is but I want it". It is flawed as gently caress but still manages to push the right buttons in your brain to make you keep going waaay longer than you should, which is why we keep wanting it to be a good game and can't shut the hell up about it. Ps4 needs a patch really bad. Just had a 30 minute failed to join game circlejerk where some of us could invite and join games by some people but couldn't by others. Then my chat client disconnected multiple times and I was subject to several black screen crashes. Felt like I was playing Battlefield for a moment.

It was such a fun 30 minutes of spamming invites in every direction though. Random PS4 side-note: I've just discovered that if I plug my G510 keyboard into the PS4, it doesn't let me use it as a keyboard, but I can use the headphone and microphone jacks on the keyboard which are detected as a headset by the PS4. It's definitely more convenient than my previous setup of plugging my PC speakers into my dualshock.

Warframe is basically a FPS Diablo game. The big things are that rather than randomized drops with a smattering of randomized stats, you get the bits of stats that you can upgrade and slot into your equipment. The combat isn't a painful slog like other FPS Diablo-likes until you get to really high levels where even the most awesome gun takes time to kill stuff. One of the big downsides of Diablo-like games is that you won't get what you want from drops very easily. Warframe dodges that because mods, even if they're just a repeat, can be used to upgrade others. Bosses have a guaranteed drop that uses a small drop table, it's not until the Orokin Void where you run into the issue of wanting one or two pieces but you're always getting something else instead. They really should give you something to build other than the Cronus while you're ranking up. Hell, they should tell you that, "Hey, you got something you can build from killing Vor! Let's walk though the crafting system real quick!" once you get the Cronus blueprint. Actually, raw potatoes have a (minor) chance to drop from any/every boss. They do drop more frequently on Saturn/Ceres/Void, but you can grind them off any boss.
