Ha, now that you mention it I dimly recall pleading with my mother for some Amstrad expansion thing. You win this round I've long ago learned that while emulators are amazing, most 80s games are best left as pleasant memories (nless they were made by Nintendo or LucasArts)

Got as far as finding out Vod has a mum! e: that was good episode ee: BBC Four are going to be rebroadcasting the first series of the Bridge from episode 1, starting on the 23rd of December at the viewer-friendly time of 3am, and episode 2 is on on Christmas Eve at 2:30am; I'm guessing they'll be doing one a day (skipping Christmas Day and Boxing Day) so they can have the second series start on the 4th of January. Catch them on the iPlayer if insomnia isn't your thing, it's a good series imo. lets go swimming fucked around with this message at 04:28 on Dec 7, 2013 |

Also, that horribly homophobic Tailor character in Man Down is easily ugh so horrible ugh. It is quite surreal to watch those scenes as the size differences between his actor and Greg Davies would lead to a very different scenario in real life.

There's 4 stories, split into 8 episodes. Theyve taken the first two-parter down from S4C clic, but you dont need to have watched it to understand whats going on. Episode 3, the first part of the second story, is up on the s4c website for 2 more days. http://www.s4c.co.uk/clic/e_level2.shtml?programme_id=516193417

I finally got to watch last weeks episode of Fresh Meat. And while it was probably the best episode of the season, the stuff with Vod's mother was really, really depressing. I didn't expect them to go that dark, but the way they slowly revealed "the beast" was heartbreaking.

The only duff note on Fresh Meat is the Kingsley-Josie stuff, which feels like it's retelling the same story-lines from previous series, and using unconvincing clichés while doing so.

Just saw the most depressing thing I've seen in a long time on Channel 4 News - John Snow interviewing Sir Terry Pratchett about his Alzheimer's. Watching one of my childhood heroes, a man whose gift of wit made him the equal of PG Wodehouse or Oscar Wilde, struggling to find the words to finish a basic sentence. I watched him getting a doctorate from Trinity College Dublin 4-5 years ago, shortly after his diagnosis, and he delighted the audience. gently caress. edit: WeAreTheRomans fucked around with this message at 22:07 on Dec 9, 2013 |

Join with me in a letter-writing campaign to the BBC trust. This travesty of justice cannot stand! Has anyone been watching Shipwrecks - Britain's Sunken History on BBC4. I don't know why I like it any more than the regular boiler-plate documentary, maybe because the subject's rather interesting and I don't know the slightest thing about it, which is always a help. I actually meant Adam before. I thought they were both Scots but apparently Scott is Welsh. After tonight's episode I think it's too close to call. Adam looked like his world had caved in when he first met Massimo Bottura, but in the second half, where they had to make Bottura's dishes, they all seemed to excel. I still think it's between Adam and Scott but honestly, who knows.

Also I was a huge fan of them making the judges eat actual garbage. Quality television. And there's a new series of Hidden Killers in the Victorian Home for fans of the telly historian with a nose-stud, victoriana, and flash animations of people burning to death.

I just caught the latest Fresh Meat on 4od (the week early one). Strange episode. The acting seemed a little off and wooden throughout the first half, but it recovered pretty quickly. On the whole though, my god I've never seen a programme capture the ridiculous nature of student life quite so accurately (and yet hilariously). It's like going back in time to look at 18 year old me. It's quite an impressive achievement when you think about it. The Peep Show/Inbetweeners/Fresh Meat guys really don't get the credit they deserve, I feel. Easily the best comedy writers active today (Sorry Linehan, I love your stuff but the IT Crowd special you did a while back didn't live up to your usual standard by a long stretch).

It was alright, especially the bits where she's attempting to fling herself down the stairs like a Victorian chambermaid, and her obvious, rapturous glee at how quickly you'd die if your corset and crinoline underwear went on fire. I like the BBC4 History department, they've got a knack of hiring presenters who are charming, dedicated and....more than a bit eccentric (witness Michael Mosley injecting cocaine into his eyeballs, and Professor Lucy making puppet shows out of 'orrible murders)

To be fair, Linehan didn't write anything in seasons 2 and 3 of Black Books. I don't like Linehan that much and I think hes a bit of a gobshite, but I still think his cameo as the guy who wears an "I Love Books" t-shirt is one of my favourite things ever. Most of his cameos are amazing actually.

Ack Ripper Street cancelled? I was going to buy the series for my girlfriend for Christmas, but I can't be bothered getting her into a show knowing it's dead. Come on Lovefilm, I've use you if you take it over! Also, it was neat watching Fresh Meat the other night and switching over to watch Blitz on 5+1, as it had vod's actress in it. I thought it was good that she hadn't been type-cast as a loser junkie since she was playing a copper, but, well, that didn't go so well. Also, Aiden Gillen (Littlefinger) as another more in-your-face character was cool. Jason Statham had it easy though, only having to play himself. Not exactly a UK TV series but an interesting movie nonetheless. Marmaduke! fucked around with this message at 21:34 on Dec 11, 2013 |
