Should I be getting charged regulatory fees on top of an Early Termination Fee? I don't have any service at all this month and I've already paid all the service charges for all the service I used on my bill last month. Edit: I'm not trying to get out of my ETF or anything, I'm just wondering why I'm getting service fees when I don't have service anymore. 100 HOGS AGREE fucked around with this message at 16:58 on Dec 5, 2013 |

Simply by activating a "different" phone should not count as a contract extension.

Curious but what happened to the monthly update on tower rollouts? I feel Sprint must have hit a bump on the rollout near me, as all this new construction and expansion in my area, along with a Sprint tower near a college less than a mile from my work, but 4G has only rolled out in the towns East and West of me. It's like 4G is allergic to my actual daily life and will take its sweet time to finally make my life a little less 3G. I did see a work crew working on that tower about a month ago so something was done however the switch has yet to be flipped or it wasn't a Sprint crew. EDIT : Ok s4gru.com covered it. Says the rollout has been swapped from a town turn on one at a time to a big launch sometime in the nest 2-3 months. Well then, the wait continues. My worst had to be when this guy's daughter racked up a $1400 bill when there was metered texting. I spent 2 weeks fixing it for them because it was their fault but they'd brought me a lot of business (I'm an indirect, this is important ) and I couldn't get in contact with them after fixing it. I finally get a hold of her and she's just like "oh he's dead" like she's explaining the weather to me. I've seen all sorts of other awful things in people's phones and a gay couple gave me their business card after explicitly having me "transfer their pictures" but I don't swing that way so no thanks.

I just used my line's upgrade to grab a Nexus 5 for my wife. When I picked it up in-store, they apparently had to activate it on my line first, and then they could activate it on hers after that. Does that make any sense? Furthermore, I previously used HER upgrade for an iPhone 5S with the intention of selling it. Will this pop up for the buyer when they try to activate it? Is there something I need to do before sending it off to make the buyer's act of activating it painless?

To ring out the phone with a new contract discount the system requires that it be placed on the line that the contract is being renewed on. So yes they were correct. Your buyer would only have an issue if you purchased the phone online or through telesales. The ESN would be reserved for the line it was purchased on. This is an easy fix if you communicate with the buyer. You just need to have the phone placed on your account momentarily and then taken off. The phone is now a free agent.

So whats the current consensus on these 2 things: Upgrading from HTC EVO LTE. Galaxy s4, HTC One, or Nexus 5? Seemed a lot of people are jumping the boat on Sprint. I have Sero Premium, is it not the best plan in the land anymore?

CombatCupcake posted:So whats the current consensus on these 2 things: It is significantly dependent on your location and usage. If you use under 2gb of data you can probably get a comparable price with one of the GSM MVNOs. Aio is an ATT one and costs $55/mo (fees and tax inclusive) for 2GB HSPA+/LTE and unlimited talk/text. After that it's throttled to "a little better than Sprint 3G speed" unless you want to pay $10 for an extra gig. Ting (if you're happy with Sprint's service but want to see if you can bring the bill down) has a closely metered billing for usage so if you aren't a big ol' power user you could save some serious money. I think I had my bill down to $35 or so, but it was all sprint 3G which I consider bad enough that I should be paid to deal with. T-Mo (again if you live/work in their coverage toeprint) is pretty much the best bang for buck if you're looking for an equilibrium between price, speed, and carrier perks. You'll pay more (I think $70 for unlimited H+/LTE data and some amount of minutes) but it's not under contract and it has decent speeds. TLDR: Check the prepaid carriers thread.

SERO is still a great plan but the issue is a lot of us have had a lot of problems with the network. The low price loses its value if you can't actually use the service.

CombatCupcake posted:So whats the current consensus on these 2 things: The Nexus 5 has better LTE reception than any other Sprint phone. Plus it supports "Sprint Spark" which is LTE on 800Mhz and 2500Mhz. The S4 and One only do LTE on 1900Mhz. The Nexus 5 is also unlocked, and compatible with both AT&T and T-Mobile, so if you do decide to leave Sprint, you can take the phone with you. IF you have decent Sprint service right now, and want to keep unlimited, I'd say stick with what you've got. Sprint is in the middle of upgrading their network, and has the cash to finish it thanks to Softbank. But if your service is bad today, you may be better off leaving Sprint. It could be another year or so before your area gets its towers upgraded.

Thanks guys. Service hasnt been too bad. Speed hasnt been amazing, even when it says 4g. But I'm also not spending hours on the web using it. I also get wifi in most places I'm at. I'm in NYC if anyone knows about their upgrades here.

CombatCupcake posted:Thanks guys. Yeah, if you're in NYC you really could do better than Sprint, even on SERO Premium. I assume you are paying $50/mo before taxes and fees, right? I'd recommend first check to see how much data you actually use on a monthly basis. Just to be safe, add 10-20% to that and look around to see what is offered. You probably pay $60ish total (unless you're on a family plan, I don't even know if SERO does those). If you're a pretty low user of talk and texts (say under 100 mins/100 SMS/MMS monthly) and use under 1GB of mobile data you could go to Ting, keeping your phone and your number, and pay $36 monthly. Less than 500MB if data and your bill comes down to $25 monthly (before tax/fees). Basically, Sprint's a good deal if you don't need high speeds but need lots of data. Otherwise you're overpaying - possibly significantly.

The Entire Universe posted:Yeah, if you're in NYC you really could do better than Sprint, even on SERO Premium. I assume you are paying $50/mo before taxes and fees, right? This is why I gave up my SERO plan to move to T-Mobile postpaid. Sprint's service was OK here for a while, but it really took a nose dive in the last year or so, to the point where I was having trouble even using Google Maps to get directions. This was on LTE, too, which wasn't any faster than their 3G, thanks to the local telco dragging their feet on running lines to Sprint's towers. Speaking of LTE, they were originally supposed to launch it officially back in June, but there's still no date for it because of all the delays, plus we're not getting 800MHz deployments here until they work out licensing with Canada. So, yeah. I was paying $50/month for SERO Premium with "premium data" (), but for just a bit more (around more, when you count the 15% discount I get for T-Mobile vs. SERO being ineligible for discounts), I was able to get unlimited voice/text/data on a carrier that actually has good infrastructure everywhere I go on a regular basis.

People seem to go on and on about T-Mobile in this thread but I look at sensorly maps and see their network is laughably smaller than Sprint and doesn't cover nearly as much. I don't even live out in the sticks either, it's true even in major metro areas. What is so great about them besides speed (if you can get it) and GSM phones?

It really depends on where you spend your time. I live in the Seattle area, so they have good coverage here (their US headquarters are a few miles from me). Since the only places I regularly go are around here or to Philadelphia for meetings (where they also have great coverage), it works out for me. If I had to go somewhere they didn't have very good coverage, I'd probably just pick up a prepaid AT&T SIM to use while I was there.

Speaking of updates, has anyone else with a Galaxy Nexus who installed the latest OTA had it act like there was no connectivity while on 4G? If you notice it you can toggle airplane mode and you can use it after, but it's obviously really dumb that you'd have to. It never did this in the previous updates. With no Google support (I still feel misled about that), OMAP itself being phased out, the apparently remarkably bad radio, and now this OTA update randomly making 4G unusable, I'm regretting getting this phone. I should have stuck with my Touch Pro 2 a little longer and gotten the s3 instead. edit: Oh yeah, another bug, it's been rebooting itself about 5-10 times a week. Sometimes it'll be sitting there for hours and suddenly it's rebooting, sometimes I'll be typing a text or opening Yelp, it seems random honestly. Yup. 4G isn't fully deployed here, so I actually forced the phone back to CDMA only mode to take care of this. On the previous update, I'd have the same thing happen if I was on WiFi. Fortunately that's faster to toggle on and off than airplane mode is. Have had a couple random reboots too, but no where near 5-10 a week. More like, 3 total.

Crossposted from the Android phone thread: For those with the Moto X (specifically on Sprint, or still running 4.2.2): Does anyone have issues with "Android OS" using up a shitload of battery (anywhere between 20-40%)? I don't know why, but this started a few days ago. An initial Google search tells me that it's something with Wi-Fi and a kworker process, however, I've always kept my Wi-Fi on and "Android OS" never drained that much battery. It's only cropped up within the past few days (and I've owned my Moto X for a few weeks now). I'm trying to figure out which apps I've installed recently that could be doing this but, I'm stumped. Anyone have this problem as well, or know how to fix it? Thanks!
