It's $125 off. I guess the $99 price for the 1020 was on sale, as it's back up to $199 now. Refurb is $75. I dunno.

edit: It won't let me add it if I select add to an existing plan. It disappears from the choices. I guess it's for new customers only?

Yeah the 50% off smartphones with two year upgrades ended today, as did the $100 smartphone trade in in store for two year contracts. You can get a $100 trade in, but only for next purchases. So for better or worse, that's now the push for the next few weeks.

I want to clarify something: if I bring my own phone, I get the $15 discount per line per smartphone. So four smartphones on the smallest data plan would be $120/month, no contract, correct? My younger brother wants an iPhone and while I guess I could reup on Verizon, I'd rather not do the contract thing and I've never heard any complaints of service here. Do corporate stores sell unlocked iPhones or is that just an Apple store/website thing? I can't find a contract-free iPhone on the AT&T website, only 2-year contract and NEXT ones, while I can for the various Android and Windows Phones.

Also, this is probably a long shot but can you speak to the reliability of V247? They're a prepaid phone service that uses the AT&T network and services the Vietnamese-American community. I guess MVNO is the correct term. An equivalent plan through them would also be $120 but the trade-off between customer service in a language that my parents can understand and the occasional text message that doesn't go through might be worth it, I dunno.

edit: oh yeah, and if I do end up going with AT&T, I can just get SIM cards from them, right?

Yes it would be $120. But 300mb is REALLY hard to have 4 smartphones on. I have customers and friend all day saying, "Oh I'll just keep data off!" or, "Oh I'm on wifi all day!" but it's REALLY hard to work with.

I've never heard of v247, but MVNO's like that tend to suck.

As for your edit, the answer is yes. Just bring in your AT&T branded or UNLOCKED GSM phones with you so we can provision them in the system correctly.

If you the absolute bare minimum data plan it does come out to about $120-$125. For 4 people that is a very small amount of data, so I would go as far as recommending everyone turns off Data by default.

AT&T will take any type of phone, is it the phone itself that is appealing due to being in the Vietnamese language, or is it mostly the customer service? If it's just the phone you can make sure it's GSM and just pop an AT&T SIM into it.

Only Apple sells unlocked iPhones. I will say Next is now exactly the same as buying outright with those plans (or two year contract), so if you don't want to plop $650 up front that isn't a bad option.

And Def go into a AT&T store, it'll be easier and everyone will be glad to help you out. To port your number you will end your Verizon account number, and activating is a one time activation fee of $36 per line.

Yeah, it's Asurion.

My only experience with it was not positive at all, but was several years ago. I bough insurance on a phone because they offered super cheap deductible on that model for some reason, and ended up dropping it a year or so later and broke the screen. They wouldn't replace it with the same model, claiming they didn't care it anymore and would only offer a shittier model as a replacement. Nothing I could do changed that at all, so I ended up getting the crappier phone to sell on eBay and cancelled the insurance.

Currently I think between the high deductibles on smartphones and the monthly recurring charge, it's hard to justify.

Insurance is simple, here are the numbers and you can make your own decision. Assume you are in some type Of agreement where you can't get a discounted phone.

Example: iPhone 5S 16GB.
Outright: $650
Monthly: $7 a month (make sure the $3 MPP isn't there)
Deductible: $199, up to 2 claims

It's really price vs risk. I would say the deductible is the same on the 64GB $850 iPhone, so the model could influence ones decision as well. Overall, most people here seem to not go for it, and the potential savings come at said potential risk.

I don't know 3rd party options well enough to compare.

On a personal note, my one co worker is taking the next week off because he is having a kid (can't blame him). This now puts my store at 3 out of 7 employees (we also have one manager and one assistant manager), and we are a level 2 traffic. I've already been workif 60 hours a week, so this week will be interesting.

Is there a Microsoft Store in your area? It's $99 for 2 years, $49 deductible. Doesn't cover lost or stolen. Nice thing about it is if you break your phone in 18 months and they don't carry 1020's anymore, you get store credit to pick out the new phone without contract extension

Oh, that could be awesome news. Thanks.

We're on a five line family plan, but want to add a sixth line. Right now one line isn't a smartphone, but if it made sense we'd like to bump that up too, so it'd be six smartphones. None of us use a ton of data now (most are on the 3 GB plan but only use 1-2 a month), but occasionally someone will use a ton streaming videos or something because they're an idiot. And I think we're all on contract until April or so, when two lines free up.

Just working out the math, I think the old mobile share plans are ~$30/month cheaper than the new ones if we were aiming for 10 GB/6 smartphones, though we might be able to get by on less data? It'd be nice not to always worry about the cap.

Old mobile share 10GB (the 6 won't make sense):
$120 for call text data
$30 * 6 lines = $180
Total: $300

The new plans will make sense if you want to take Advantage of yearly upgrades, otherwise they won't.
