I too am just getting back into Vic2 (for the first time since release). Are both expansions pretty mandatory for a fine-tuned experience?

This being Victoria makes me think probably yes, but the scope of recent CK2 expansions makes me think maybe not.

I can't imagine playing V2 without great wars or crisis, having both expansions is highly recommended.

AHD and HoD are much more in the old style of "fix everything" Paradox expansions rather than the CK2 "optionally flesh out a dimension of the game" kind.

Vicky 2 is still on the old expansion model, so if you don't buy the expansions you don't get any of the improvements that go with it.

There are only two expansions?

but, yes, both expansions, especially the second, are more or less necessary. The base game was my favorite Paradox game until CK2 came out, but I was in a tiny, tiny minority who held that opinion, and even then I'll still say you need the expansions. Even if you enjoy the vanilla version, you'll enjoy it with expansions so much more.

Just got a chance to play this.

- Several states, like Deseret, begin with no tech whatsoever.
- As the game goes on, Pan-American rebellions become more severe and frequent. As Empire, I dealt with six or seven "American Wind" type events. Had I not been in control, the United States would have unified as a monarchy.
- United Virginia's cores form some very strange borders. I think United Virginia is suppose to have cores on Georgia but this is not in the game.
- United Virginia has a strange tendency to colonize Nunavut as soon as possible.
- There is very little activity in Canada unless it is forced by the player.
- It might be cool to give the European states some incentive to interact with North America. Maybe you could give the United Kingdom a decision where they get claims on the former Thirteen Colonies. I am imagining a larger scale version of the Ostend Manifesto decision.
- I do not think it is possible to form any of the regional unions yet. Are there suppose to be decisions in place to allow this?

Thanks so much for the feedback. I'm going to look closely at United Virginia and find out why it's such a hungry powerhouse of rage and hatred. As for Deseret and tech, I suspect this is something to do with the American nations that ship with the game that I included - I'll pull out their country files and "fix" them manually.

I love the additional suggestions for the mod. :)

Honestly, I think the issue is just that Virginia starts off surrounded by weak states and has cores on all of them. After absorbing Maryland, Delmarva and Kentucky there is no way for Westylvania or North Carolina to compete.

You would probably see similar behavior if you gave all the Thirteen States their original land claims.

Perhaps Paradox is making a post-apocalyptic grand strategy game, complete with mutations, that uses the nuclear winter model. It'd be a nice change-up from all the deserts depicted in post-apocalyptic games.

So I just saw the trailer for Warlock 2. Between that and Leviathan Warships, I'm starting to wonder - does Paradox's advertising strategy currently consist of "Try to make the audience laugh and hope it all works out"?

Can't say I disapprove, exactly. Beats the hell out of some ad strategies I've seen in the past.

I'm sorry, but is there any reason at all to suppose that the Holiday Countdown is to a PDS-developed title? The page only has a Paradox Interactive logo, so I would suppose it's just a PI-published game, which could be literally anything.

(Seriously, Paradox, start using different names for the publisher and developer.)
