This band Impending Doom was a good Whitechapel clone for their second tape, then the one after that was not so good and their next tape was a bit better, but not great. The new tape is pretty sick though,,, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nx-67lvNykc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMiFPJA-Iu0

Fellsilent manages to stay pretty unique due to coming pretty early in the whole "djent" wave. Some of the members went on to form Tesseract and one went on in Monuments. You could check those out but I think Fellsilent is better. Some of their colleagues from around that time were Sikth and Textures.

thank you gentle goon. I like Tesseract and Monuments a lot, I almost mentioned them too. I didn't know all three were connected. I like some Sikth songs but in general they are a little too experimental for me, I'm always waiting for them to get back to a catchy riff. I'd never really listened to Textures because I thought they were too clean (don't like clean vocals much), but I just listened to an earlier song and it's pretty brutal. I love the djent tone but it bums me out that so many djent bands have this weird sci-fi, super-fast, super-technical style. I just want some groovy riffs.

Yeah I feel you dude. Overall I'm not really into the genre but there's definitely a few bands in it that I dig heavy, like Sikth. Definitely do listen to Textures' earlier stuff compared to their new stuff. The new singer is nice but the older material is way better imo. I heard that the new singer's old band, Cilice, was pretty good too. Try the Safety Fire. They do a bit weedly weedly but it's usually in the solos and they mix in a lot of jazzy interludes into some songs. Here's the EP version of one of my favorite tunes of theirs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o10LBK-ZXtI You could try Aliases too, it's what one of the guitarists from Sikth went on to after Sikth broke up ( ) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wQNxVwp-Wc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5oxBpBnFrmg New album soon maybe?? edit: there's also Mnemic but I'm not really a fan of them, they're more lovely fear factory than groovy to me. muike fucked around with this message at 17:59 on Nov 23, 2013 |

They said to not confuse this with the actual follow up to Periphery II (their last album) which is also coming next year. This is almost like a side-project...still can't wait to hear it though. I thought the first Periphery album was eh, but the second one I liked a lot.

I liked Periphery's debut on first listen and it just got worse and worse every time I heard something from it. The fact that djent has lasted more than five minutes is shocking to me.

That entire sound instantly turns me away at this point. I can do Meshuggah in small doses. The rest of djent is just irritating to me, especially with that whiny vocalist that Periphery has.

I like Periphery's second album because, while yes it's Djent (not that I consider that a dirty word like some other people do) it's not that drone-like samey sounding djent that goes on for the whole album. Plus, the guitar solos on that album are tits.

Saw Fit For an Autopsy, I Declare War, and Thy Art is Murder last night in NYC. Was excited to see TAIM for the first time but they were way too loving loud and I could barely discern any instruments or recognize songs until breakdowns came on. It was really disappointing. I Declare War was heavy and awesome as gently caress just like always.

I remember feeling really underwhelmed by that one track they had posted up earlier, but the other track they have available on Spotify, "Of Fearful Men", kicks tons of rear end. Definitely just straight up After the Burial, exactly what I was hoping for. Hoping the rest of the album is like this. Edit: Been listening to the rest of the album on YouTube. For anyone who uses Spotify: I made a playlist of metal/metalcore/hardcore albums from 2000-2005 because I was feeling nostalgic. I don't know what most of you guys ages are but for me this was pretty much the best period of music I've ever experienced save for a few albums here and there. I was going to say that I love how they've been releasing an album a year, then I looked and saw "Daybreaker" was from 2012.
