Otherwise, this is a good example of how not to make a teaser. Nolan's trailer showed virtually nothing, but his name, and a few memorable images made it a great teaser. This however, fails to excite anyone unless they have an immediate interest in a) the singularity or b) Johnny Depp in a non-pirates movie. And my suspicion is those are two small groups of mostly non-overlapping people.

TBH, I saw the blood-covered robot as the Youtube preview image, and kinda hoped that it would be a movie about killer robots killing everyone. Also, that Blended trailer looks like it could maybe be one of the better movies in a generally terrible genre.

I'm not actually 100% sure, but I think a lot of the time it's outside marketing companies or departments mostly separate from the people who actually made the movie.
