I do love the part of game documentaries that cover the music, because then you know the music is probably going to be worth it. And it does sound like it will be. That animation discussion was pretty brutal too. They were joking about how it was "That's great, but you have to do everything again" but that's exactly what it was. Elijah Wood may not be Jennifer Hale but he did do some pretty great voice work in Tron: Uprising, which seemed like his biggest voice role to date (Fake edit: Looking it up, he was the voice of Spyro for the PS2 games of the series, so I guess that might have been bigger but I never played those).

I'm still tangentially worried about all these things (budget, deadlines, bug testing) they keep bringing up and offering no resolution on though :ohdear:

I guess my closure will be Act 1. Then it gets to start all over again for Act 2.

I watched a youtube highlight of all the funny things the host of the VGX awards said, and one of them was "So how much of your Kickstarter money did Elijah Wood cost you?" and I got a chuckle out of that considering all of their scrambling for additional money and poo poo. I can't imagine where Elijah is a monetized draw for a videogame like this.

ps - never watch a videogames awards show, it's more masturbatory and commercial than a porn awards show.

Curious about other backers: You going to play as soon as the beta is released, or wait for the actual release of Act 1? I'm tempted to play the beta, even if there are bugs and such.

I'll probably just play the full game. I don't like playing incomplete parts of things.

There doesn't seem to be much benefit in playing the beta of an adventure game. I have played some alphas or betas before (most recently the Strike Suit Zero beta and the Divinity Original Sin alpha) because those are a bit more complicated and I appreciate being able to get a feel about how they play beforehand. But a point and click adventure game? The pointing and clicking isn't really my concern, and seeing possibly out-of-context story and dialogue could be a problem rather than a benefit.

Yeah, and I even haven't watched the last couple documentary episodes just because they're a little too spoilery. I know it's nothing big and I'm sure they're keeping lots of secrets, but at this point I'd rather play through the game when it's officially done then go back and watch the making-of than see little snippets or bounce off a janky version.

He is a pretty huge fan of Tim's stuff so I bet he gave them a sweet deal if not doing it for free. Dude loves Monkey Island.

Didn't Tim mention at some point that their voice over budget was at the same level as it was when they were aiming for a $400k budget? Or am I just misremembering things?

Either way, it's pretty clear that a lot of favors are getting pulled here. :)

Oh, I'm sure Elijah got paid, but probably not LotR money. I don't think Tim'd do it if he was extraordinarily expensive, but I guess I have no way of knowing.

He seems like a cool guy. He also appeared in that Death & Return of Superman video, and I don't suspect he was paid a ton for that either.

Love this episode. Elijah asking Tim to be a part of it must have been huge for him. It gives his game a certain star quality that will reach lots of people beyond his own adventure game credits and will make the main character so much better. Also Elijah seems really cool and awesome in person :)

I continue to have big hopes for the game but I think I'll skip the beta for the full release since I don't want to play the incomplete package.

If it's a "I want to be involved in this" deal then he's probably doing it for whatever the union minimum is.

He's hobbit rich, I doubt he'd need to do anything for the money unless it was a gigantic pile of money which I doubt a low budget adventure game could offer.

Great episode, 2 parts that stick out where when Tim was disagreeing with Marrick's animations. That was kinda brutal haha, that other guy just looked defeated. The other was them talking about asking Elijah Wood only for Elijah to loving DM him in the middle of that convo. That's pretty good.

I still don't understand why they aren't marketing it as episodic instead of an early access game. Unless it's straight up broken like the name implies.

I have a feeling they, or perhaps just Schafer, really wants to stick as close to the original kickstarter pitch as they can. That seems to be the same reason they haven't gone to a publisher at all, even though at this point a publisher would probably let them keep all creative control and rights, but instead taking all extra funds they need from Double Fine's own revenue. More than a few other kickstarters have gotten assistance from publishers but they never made a promise to make an "a game for adventure fans, funded by adventure fans." Since the kickstarter wasn't for a "two part episodic adventure game" he may not want to say its done until it is.

It's actually not on Steam Early Access anymore, for what are essentially boring logistical reasons. It just comes out as Part 1, with a "Season Pass," and anyone who has Act 1 (via being a backer, or just buying it normally) will get Act 2 as well.

Are there any plans on pushing out updates to Act I after "official" release of Act I, or will Act I pretty much be in the can at that point?

Yes, 14th is just for backers. Public release a bit later.

As for updates to Act 1 after the public release, it'll just be like any other game--if there are actually major problems, we'll patch them, but it's not like Spacebase or something where we'll be constantly adding content and tweaking things. We consider Act 1 to be a polished and satisfying experience in its own right.

Keys going out tomorrow through Humble Bundle. I gotta say, I'm pretty excited about finally being able to play Broken Age, maybe as much as anything that's come through Kickstarter before. Watching all those insider documentary videos might have something to do with it.

Awesome! The KickStarter update also includes a video that showcases the female protagonist, Vella. (also I need to start watching the documentary vids again)

I'm really looking forward to this game, mostly because it's from the man who created my all-time favorite adventure game, Grim Fandango.
