Can anyone help identify the band or song at the 8 minute mark of this podcast? The host doesn't know and it's not anything from the label they usually use for their interludes. I'm assuming it's a punk/indie band from NYC... first lyrics are: Stuck in traffic along the BQE... oh no... I can do without Some kid trying too hard hassling me... oh no... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LWkVcaAGCi0 Can someone help me figure out what album this is on? This is Joan Baez and her sister Mimi singing "Bread and Roses," which is a really great old Union song. But I can't figure out where this recording is from - all of my googlings have only brought me information about the Bread+Roses foundation, not about the song. Help, anyone??

The opening rhythm of this Griffin House, Woman with the Beautiful Hair sounds exactly like another relatively famous song but I can't pin it down. It is driving me nuts. Can any of you? Sorry about the MySpace, it was the only non live version I could find (it is also on Spotify). In any case you don't have to login just click the play button by the song in the main part of the page.

I forget how I found out about the song and I don't remember anything else about it beyond it may have been called "Snowing" and it was maybe six minutes long. I think it was a band associated with slowcore or space rock or ambient pop genres from the 1990s. The band was maybe one word as well, and I think I found out about them on allmusic since all their albums were four or five stars and they had maybe three of them only. Sorry this is incredibly vague, anyone know what I'm talking about?

A huge shot in the dark, but are you thinking of something from the band "James"? The song Skindiving is about 6 minutes long and has an ambient feel.

Or maybe you're thinking of Slowdive? They have three albums that are all pretty well reviewed as well as a somewhat ambient feel. They play pretty slow dreampop and have a lot of songs ~5 or 6 minutes.

Nope, it wasn't either of those groups unfortunately. For some reason I have it in mind that they're also notably Mormon but, again, I'm not completely sure. I suspect this might be a lost cause considering I really don't remember any much specific about it and what I am providing is hilariously obtuse! edit: And it's not Low, the band I'm thinking of would be the "other" Mormon slowcore/ambient pop/whatever band that is apparently just as influential but not nearly as well known if allmusic is to be believed... This is a total longshot but I'm looking for the name of what I'm guessing is a mid 90s-early 2000s techno song. The main riff is like a short descending chromatic synth thing: B,B,Bb,Bb,G,G,G, low E, G,G,G low E, A,A,A At least, I think that's the key it starts on but it follows that pattern. Any help would be hugely appreciated. It was a pretty big tune back in the day, they play it all the time at my gym but I never catch the name Found it! I found an old CD in my car that had a song from a goon album posted in GBS quite some time ago. It was a funk band and the lyrics to the song went something like this: I'm in love with you Girl you blow my karmic bubble With the things you do Hey hey, and now I'm on my way Through stormy weather just to hear the sweet things you say Hey hey hey, I'm in love Goon that made this song, hopefully you're still here and can point me in the direction to buy or re-download your album. Had this stuck in my head all day, can't find it anywhere! Its part of a kind of jazz/big band song. Pretty sure this part is played by brass, the tune is loud and strong and starts off slow but gets gradually faster. Sounds like "Baah dah, baah dah, baaah da da daaah" and just repeats for a bit. It might be in a movie? Somehow I just have an image of dudes doing the can can to it. ed: never mind, found it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGFToiLtXro LeafyGreens fucked around with this message at 20:14 on Jan 3, 2014 |
