Okay so I admit maybe when I was much younger I used to watch ER with my parents - so like the mid to late 90s - but I do not know this poo poo happened. This poo poo for real? (I can maybe believe none of that should happen except for the sake of shock value, so wtf?)

I am sorry I forgot to finish the sentence as it was robocop that he got sprayed by acid and hit by a car.
As for the helicopter it did happen and it was amazing.

I'm disappointed that there was no shot of the helicopter outside a window stalking him before finally taking him out.

Also I'm watching the pilot of The X-Files and like 4 minutes I already have a serious problem with this show. Scully thinks the structural formula of a generic tripeptide is a "synthetic" protein? How does she know it's synthetic!!! Also, why is finding an unspecified tripeptide in human tissue worth noting? None of this makes any sense! I give The X-Files, as a whole, an F-. Terrible show.

No but i've just remembered that he first went to the roof and saw the helicopter about to take off, then overcome by panic from seeing a helicopter again he went straight to the ground floor and ran outside to get some air, which was the exact moment the helicopter decided to fall directly on top of him.

e: Ah just noticed the clips linked right there

The best part is how the helicopter seems to be getting closer and closer to him as stalking him. Those clips are so great, and ER was amazing.

Yeah, I remember another episode in that same season where a mad patient goes and steals a tank and rampages through the streets of Chicago, trying to get to the hospital to kill Dr Morris, it was a dangerous place to work that's for sure.

The X-Files ScienceWatch: Scully, whose undergraduate degree was in physics, just said that time is "a universal invariant". :argh:

But seriously, this is really good for a pilot. I was expecting it to be a bit more dated and cheesy, but other than a little hammy acting this holds up surprisingly well. Certainly holds up better than the Millennium pilot, although the latter features both a White Zombie and a Nine Inch Nails song so maybe the deck was stacked against it.

I'm watching X-Files too right now (almost done with season 3) and I'm still surprised how good it is. Scully and Mulder have amazing chemistry, the monster of the week cases are great (especially the weirder cases that gently caress with the formula like Syzygy or that weirdass comedy episode with the freakshow) and the cinematography is surprisingly beautiful. They really make the terrible 90's TV quality work. And don't get me started on that score again :allears:.

They move to California eventually. Unfortunately, that coincides with a decline in general quality.

But yeah, can't believe it wasn't included in the best network show discussion earlier.

Haven't seen much discussion of it around here but this season of Eagleheart is probably one of the strangest TV shows ever. Last week's episode had Joe Estevez pretending to be Martin Sheen playing Joe Estevez pretending to be Martin Sheen with the ability to put his soul into other people's bodies when he dies.

Also the episode had a subplot where it turns out that fedoras are just parasitic ocean creatures that when they attach themselves to a person it turns them into a real douchebag.

That's right, and he lasted a whole season and a half before his next encounter with the helicopter. It was still a good show after then and until it ended but in its prime ER was excellent television. Definitely the best TV medical drama ever.

I watched all of ER in the last year and while I will readily agree that it was excellent in it's prime fading to merely good later, it was already decidedly ropey by season eight. Seasons nine and ten were some of the worst television I have ever seen. The only tolerable parts of ten were ones with cameos from the original cast.

It was the same pattern as with Third Watch, but at a much accelerated pace and from a higher level of starting quality. The plots became predictable and sensationalist, so ratings fell away. The response designed to boost ratings was to make the plots even more predictable, nonsensical, and sensational. Add to that a wave of new characters who were 'edgy' and 'extreme' (to replace solidly acted and developed characters who'd been around for the best part of a decade) and you ended up with an ouroboros of poo poo. A televisual human-centipede.

Ok, this is weird. I just grabbed hold of a couple of seasons of Breaking Bad. Nice show, really good. Didn't want to start watching a series before it ended though, so I was a bit late. But the intro texts bugs me out, how come I know exactly every element shown with the periodic table cells superimposed on the names? Like, I don't even read the characters, I see the actual names! I did chemistry (poorly) 20 years ago, and I promise you I don't have the memory for that kind of stuff. Hell, I'm glad to just find the way to my apartment at the end of the day. But here we go, Cobalt, Lanthanum, Erbium, Tellurium...

I'm not cut out for the crack businesses!

Hey, look. Look, if- if you screw me on this, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine, you rat bastard!
Speaking of scifi from the 90s/early 00s, a few nights ago I got around to watching the Total Recall 2070s two-parter premiere from the late 90s and was sort of surprised how much I actually liked it. It's not 'great', but it feels like they really wanted to do something ambitious with it but feels mostly held back by the performances.

Since it was a show that I pretty much ignored for the last dozen years and had a preconceived bad impression of, I'm thinking about doing a full Hulu watch of the series.
