Especially since you usually get enough ammo with the free squad car shotgun to clean out the entire mission.

My only issue with Sleeping Dogs is that there's no real resolution between Wei and the people running his triad gang by the conclusion. Other than that, drat. Wei Shen is a perfect protagonist - broody and properly dramatic, but also capable of lighthearted crazytown antics. Also also, to help people play the shooting sections - even if you're about to lose slow-mo, aim for the headshot. A single headshot will renew the timer - allowing to chain entire rooms of enemies with one extended round of Bullet Time. It also makes you feel like a badass.

Just finished my second play, and I forgot how the ending of the game was once you find Jackie's body disemboweled on a meathook, end up tortured yourself including having someone use a drill press through your leg, fight your way through mooks barely alive, drive a machete through the chest of your torturer, and finally kill the big bad by throwing his body into an ice chipper. Oh and then give Pendrew a quick and painful death sentence.

I bought the bundle with all the DLCs from Steam so after I finished the first mission I was given a ton of XP and all kinds of crazy equipment. I'm guessing this is because of the DLCs. I want to play the game, but this feels like cheating. Can I disable the DLCs so I can learn the game without all this gear tempting me? \/\/\/ Thanks a ton! Sadly the OP doesn't cover it (there was a writeup deep in the thread) but there's a select few DLC that don't add much substance to the game. The Red Envelope, Top Dog Gold+Silver and to some extent the High Roller DLCs all give you a headstart in a game that isn't very grindy or badly paced. Apparently you can remove their effects by taking out certain .dat files in the Sleeping Dogs folder inside steamapps. They shouldn't return unless you have to verify files. The link has the complete list if it's too much clutter for your liking. http://steamcommunity.com/app/202170/discussions/0/846945955286761354/ posted:1E6323E1.dat Top Dog Gold Pack # pure cheat

Yeah, remove the XP stuff. The equipment/costumes can either be useful - getting extra Triad/Cop XP - or fun if you want to ride around looking like Bruce Lee or Adam Jensen. Have fun, enjoy yourself, this is one of the best games I've played in quite some time. I may do a third run, which is something I never do for non-RPGs.

Also the Dragon Master DLC is on sale which I like as well - it gives you a few replayable missions and I think cars/outfits. The other lesser story DLCs (Wheels of Fury and Zodiac Tournament) aren't on sale right now, but they tend to be pretty short anyway - WoF is a series of car missions, Zodiac Tournament is basically "Enter the Dragon."

My favourite thing about Sleeping Dogs is how casually good at karaoke the voice actor is. And I don't know if it's been in any other open world games, but it's a better side-quest than anything GTA, Saints Row, rear end Creed etc have to offer.

There's not really any bad choices to make when levelling up, I think the only experience tree you can't complete both branches of with points to spare is the Triad tree, unless you buy some of the DLCs. Even then you end up like 2 abilities short.

So far I'm struggling with counters. I'm not timing them right and then stand there like a goof for five seconds unable to move. I'm sure I'll get it. Thanks!

TraderStav posted:So far I'm struggling with counters. I'm not timing them right and then stand there like a goof for five seconds unable to move. I'm sure I'll get it. Thanks! The trick to counters is to only press the button once. Spamming it results in that "Wei stand around waiting to get punched in the face" thing. The window is pretty generous once you get the hang of it, and you can counter at any point in an attack animation. It's also not direction sensitive, so for fights where you're getting ganged up on if any enemy flashes red hit the counter button and Wei will do his kung fu magic. Some of the DLC outfits make the counter window last longer too, if you have some of those.

Getting back into this after playing when the game originally came out. I got a bunch of DLCs, and while Year of the Snake and Nightmare in North point are in the menu, Zodiac Tournament isn't, although I think I saw the new island while beating up some zombies. Is the ZT activated it in-game somehow?

Make sure you are ready for the tournament too, it's pretty tough. You'll want to be about halfway through the main story, with plenty of unlocked moves. I've always maintained it makes a perfect mid-point intermission to go off and spend an hour having a retro adventure.

Ok, I've been reading this last couple of pages. I picked this up on Jan 1st when it was free for XBox Live Gold members and I'm loving it so far. I've gotten 60 or 70 percent into the game with no DLC, but I really want to buy some now since I've gotten so much enjoyment out of it so far for nothing. So, I should get: Year of the Snake, Nightmare in North and Zodiac Tournament? What about some of those other "dress up my doll" DLCs any of those any good? Should I wait until I finish the game, or buy them now?

The Wheels of Fury DLC gives you a couple of missions too, plus the car's fun to use. When it comes to costumes its mostly up to you. Triad Enforcer gives you arenas that allow you to grind Triad points. I personally like the Monkey King outfit. When it comes down to it Year of the Snake is the one you should really get just for the taser and tear gas launcher.

warning, don't buy all of the dlc if you are. the extra content ones are great fun, (year of the snake, nightmare in north st, wheels of fury and whatever the fight club one is), the costumes are fine if you're into those, but there are also a bunch of shortcut dlc that just give you a bunch of money and xp at the start of the game and ruin the progression. I do recommend the triad enforcer pack or whatever it is as well, because triad xp is hardest to get and it's an easy and fun way to add bit more to it if you want to max out the tree (or grid it out early I suppose, since I don't think it has a limit on it). The game's a bit short but lots of fun.

If you haven't tried the drunken master Wei Shen at least once, you haven't really played as Wei Shen. Also brutal taser cop Wei Shen. Aie me, this game. It is way too short, it should have been roughly two hundred times longer.

Short games are best games. I've hit 100% on this game twice over, and have a third run in progress that I dip into now and again. Compare that with GTA V, which was really good but which just dragged on forever if you go for 100%. For me, the measure of the greatness of an open world game is how willing I would be to replay it, on the stipulation that a replay would require a full completion. I'd gladly find all the gangs, lockboxes, and cameras a dozen times over. I'd wipe the map clean in The Saboteur a second time (and I will as soon as I find a PS3 copy). No force on earth could make me endure the kifflom stuff in GTA V again, and I say that as someone that rates that game five stars.

Yeah, I think I might actually enjoy the game more the second time around once the characters have all already grown on me. The character work in this game was way better than in GTA V. There were so many Triad guys I couldn't stand that I grew to really like, and that made me care way, way more about what happened to them and really made the end of the game feel like a revenge flick.
