I got the game from the Steam sale. After toughing through cutscene crashes, minutes-long fast travel sequences, and other shittiness, I got to the end, only to run into the bug where you the inputs for the final Joker beatdowns don't work. drat

This may be due to my aging PC, but using fast travel takes significantly longer than the loading times normally are.

Looking around different forums seems to suggest that it's a new bug introduced by one of the later patches. Somehow it's a fitting end to all the bugginess!

Disregarding the bugs, after playing through most of Origins, my impression is Arkham City, but more annoying. I can't really place my finger on it but the design seems sloppier.

I must be bad at this or something, but is the fight with (I don't know why I'm spoilering this) Deathstroke on board the Final Offer really just 'Counter everything and don't worry about offense'?

Use the batclaw when you have an opening to do the batclaw slamdown. When his energy goes down enough the flash bomb sequence will kick in. Repeat 3 times.

I had good results with pressing him hard with attacks after doing the counter segments. If you can build up a freeflow, you can do special combo takedowns on him to help shave his lifebar a bit once you get going.

No, you can be offensive. Use the Batclaw to throw him off balance, keep an eye out for when he is countering you. He is a tutorial for a type of enemy that shows up later.

Something I came across while doing the data pack sweep: In the Royal Hotel's parking garage (Data Pack 15-8 by this guide's count): There's a data pack in a room that I had to enter using a duct from above. There's a security station right next to it that I can hack with the code "carcrash" but I don't know what it opens?

It either opens the intended way to that objective (you came in from the wrong direction because you had more equipment later in the game), or it's a means to get to another one of the things you were sweeping through for.

Bah, oh well. Oh by the way, holy poo poo what a bad idea to go into the Hotel again. Hey, there's only one route through and you have to go all the way back to the beginning to get out, unless I'm missing something? The end of the level is locked off and when you're grappling between the two towers the game doesn't let you just glide away into the city.

It makes you appreciate all the planning that went into avoiding that sort of outcome in AA and AC- the interiors of the areas in all of those games were partially built to minimize backtracking after collectibles are obtained.

Eh. None of the games are particularly strong in this aspect. AA isn't much better, Medical sucks, Intensive Care sucks. AC just doesn't have a ton of big indoor areas to begin with, but the Museum isn't great, and neither was Wonder City.

Speaking of Wonder City, I've always wondered (ha ha) what's up with that place and I suppose here's as good a place as any to ask. There's the occasional thug voice clip about how he remembers hearing about it at school, but it's just this giant half broken place utterly abandoned except for the (Arkham City spoilers)ninja clans and autonomous steampunk robots and immortality goo and all this stuff just papered over by Gotham's crappy subway system. Heck Wonder Tower is still huge and sticking up in the center of the city. I don't know really anything about Batman comics, but is there really just this magical steampunk hideout right in the middle of Gotham that nobody bothers to talk about or investigate?

Wonder city did feel like a nod to Gotham by Gaslight since one of the villians in that built advanced 19th century robots with very similar aethetics to AC's derelict guardians. It was also very steampunky at times too.

I started Arkham City ages ago and decided to start playing it again, in the meantime I got upgraded to the GotY edition so I landed myself that kickass Batman Beyond skin. I heard you can't use it in the story until you beat it, is there any way around this?

They should have stuck to being able to pick your skin before trying New Game Plus instead of having to go to your batsuit chamber to change. The suit resets back to the original everytime you load the game in New Game Plus.

There's a Konami-code-esque thing you can do at the title sequence to enable alternate skins before you finish the game, you can google it.

One area I feel that's not been developed enough for Batman games is the actual crime solving and story stuff - I actually would like to see a Telltale games type of take on Batman. Bonus points for being episodic and having lots of cliffhangers. Also, a 'last of us' treatment of Batman would be great - every part of the game's construction serves the story.

Yeah I did get the riddles and read what it said, my question was just why didn't anyone look at wonder tower and ever decide to like, see what was in the basement? It's not like wonder city is well-hidden, there's a big ol' obvious door that anyone with a blowtorch and the land rights could get through in less than a day. Also while you're down there it's pretty obvious that wonder city used to be common knowledge, and not THAT long ago. I feel like if a magical underground steampunk robot suburb that had its own newspaper suddenly collapsed the people of the same city wouldn't have just forgotten all about it in the span of a single generation, and might, y'know, be mildly curious to see why it collapsed.

I thought it was a fun boss fight because it's fast paced in just a one-on-one fight where you counter at the appropriate time while punching. You can do the fight methodically if you want, but just going the gently caress in there and trying to beat him in a fist fight is amazing and makes the fight intense.

While suffering from the new endgame-breaking bug, I decided to start up an "easy" game, blow through it, and get the achievements for doing the Deathstroke and Shiva fights with no damage. And I got them. Yay! Then I decided to do some challenge maps. Except none of the inputs worked. I could rotate the camera, and the left mouse button made Batman throw a concussion grenade. Nothing else did anything. At least I could still bring up the esc menu. Then I tried opening the game again and ran into the same problem.
