Tonight's episode of Eagleheart was once again completely bonkers. A town that hates shoeshine boys (aka "shine boys") because they invented a process called "60-shining" and that's not even the weirdest part of the episode.

I asked this question a billion years ago in a previous version of this thread but the archives are poo poo for searching, but when does Sons of Anarchy go off the rails into suck? I want to say I recall everyone said season 4, but just want to double check so I know when to quit.

It's up there with Starship Troopers. I saw Serenity before Firefly as well and enjoyed the hell out of it. I'd say that as a whole, it works better if you see it first, because you don't get hung up on little plot and character inconsistencies. Some pieces taken individually do work better with prior knowledge, of course, but for the most part it's excellent as a standalone feature.

I thought Serenity being terrible was a given, but I guess even Stalin had his defenders.precision posted:it's one of the best sci-fi films in recent memory. If you discount Gravity, Moon, Prometheus, Pacific Rim and every other good to great sci-fi film made in the last decade, sure.

Count me as part of the 'saw Serenity before Firefly and thought it was loving awesome' crowd. It's much more consistent than the original show as a whole and captures the light-hearted Star Wars-esque tone perfectly.

Yeah I didn't think masses of Prometheus, but in a pinch I'd probably watch it over Serenity again. Moon is easily the best of that bunch, and Gravity was just awesome in the cinema. He didn't mention Oblivion, but I will: Oblivion was a better watch than Serenity too.

I have to say TOP OF THE LAKE lost me a bit by the end. Kind of unceasing misery porn that made me dilly-dally on catching up on it. I liked the beginning, the idea of being immersed in this new country and setting, but I feel the mawkish and sensationalism made it a whole lot more conventional than I hoped it would be. EDIT: Also PACIFIC RIM? What a miss.

If you haven't seen those two make sure you do. Adult Swim is kicking rear end in the parody/spoof TV show category right now. I haven't seen shows like this since Police Squad.

I'm probably the only person who liked Tom Goes to the Mayor and thought the show really started rough but got a lot better from the Sandalman episode onward. I'd also be happy if they'd maybe be able to get the re-air rights to some cancelled shows from other networks, like Downtown and others from MTV, Duckman from USA, etc. that Viacom isn't doing anything with.

I'm an episode or two behind on Eagleheart: Paradise Rising at the moment, which is great: it means I get to watch more Eagleheart: Paradise Rising. Childrens was only 'OK' this year, NTSF was better than usual, Eric Andre was superb (James Van Der Beek episode had me in hysterics) and Eagleheart has just been an insane arc of wonderful madness. For some reason I find Heart She Holler a little harder to get into?

Serenity is good. Pacific Rim is as good as a movie about giant robots beating the poo poo out of giant monsters can be. Prometheus is boring, pretentious dreck and missed opportunities. District 9 should have remained a short. Generations is the best of the ST:TNG movies.

District 9s change from documentary to movie was jarring as hell though, and I can only hope there was a technical/budgetary reason to do that, rather than thinking it was a good idea and that nobody would notice.

The only thing that need be done to fix the majority is if it were a cable series. Given to Starz, FX, AMC, whoever, time and a team of bright people could truly create a corporeal, mesmerizing reality. As is, the entire world of the film, and thus all reason for anything happening, is a poorly painted cardboard stand-in. A real shame.
