Realize this isn't the place for it necessarily, but working on a janky EDH deck right now, based on a card idea that hit Reddit awhile back. I thought it needed some tweaking to not be too overpowered. I still need to test it, but it's getting there. I have to touch up the token art a bit.

👨🏻‍⚕️🩺🔪🙀😱🙀

The first ability should probably be: "When ~ enters the battlefield, target player reveals his or her hand unless he or she pays 2 life for each card in his or her hand"
The main issue is with people not understanding that it's an all or nothing thing and trying to pay to keep some cards back. "pays life equal to twice the number of cards in his or her hand" would fix that but that's longer and a little more awkward.

The keyword abilities should be listed first.

The third ability could say "each equal to 2" for clarity, or it could equally also say "power 2, toughness 2, and converted mana cost 2."

Stephen Colbert has way too many lines of text. He has flavor text, as well as two different abilities that both convey the same thing flavor wise. Some of these lines have to go if you want people to be able to read your card.

The rules text on the token should be centered. Also, bird is a type in magic, while eagle isn't.

Yeah, I would put:

Truthiness: When Stephan Colbert enters the battlefield target player may reveal any number of cards in his or her hand. That player loses 2 life for each card he or she does not reveal this way.

Or if you don't want the number of cards to be an option, it would be "...target player may reveal his or her hand. That player loses 2 life for each card he or she does not reveal this way."

Excellent - thanks. I wanted Truthiness to be clearly all-or-nothing, so I'll re-word that. As for the token generation, I'll probably follow the Tolsimir Wolfblood ability, but the Eagles will be non-legendary. Do I have to have the bit about it being "... named Eagle" or can the ability just specify a RWU 1/1 bird and I can use my Eagle token?

Dr. Stab
Sep 12, 2010
👨🏻‍⚕️🩺🔪🙀😱🙀

You can use whatever piece of paper you want to represent a token. It doesn't matter that yours says eagle on it.
Either way, it being a red white and blue bird and the token having an eagle on the art is already more than enough to convey the flavor.

Anyways, I was thinking about Yet Another AEther Vortex earlier, and was wondering if there was a way to make a card that would have most of its functionality, or at least be reminiscent of it.

I mean, I could easily see an enchantment that says:
"Play with the top card of your library revealed.
As long as the top card of your library is an artifact, creature, enchantment, or land card, ~this~ has the full text of that card and has haste and the text 'Play with the top card of your library revealed.'"

However, this doesn't make it global, and is a lot more fragile than Yet Another AEther Vortex. Also, I'm pretty sure this wouldn't be in red's part of the color pie.
