I totally agree with that. Mine and my wife's DDs have ~65 and ~100hp, respectively. Both get ~47mpg. I have faster cars but they dont get 47 mpg so i drive them less often. However, i still think it gets boring after a while. I think that's natural for an enthusiast who is tempted to mod everything. After a while of something being stock you're just itching to find something 'wrong' with it to 'improve'. But, i'll always be one of the people who says most people can get along with a lot less HP than they think they can.

Speaking of MPG, and since I constantly mental masturbate about the IS 300 Sportcross, I'd like to talk about what grinds my gears:

Why would you put a MPG gauge that goes to 80 mpg in a car EPA rated at 16/22 ? I can't let go of this. What do the designers think of their customers?

The BMW ones seem pretty dumb too, although I don't remember if they go all the way to 80.

It'd probably improve - one of the Mazda2's biggest strikes against it in the cost-is-everything market is that it comes in a bit on the thirty side, especially with the ancient automatic, and that's before you even get the 3cyl Fiesta to compare to.
It's real strike is that Mazda hasn't gamed the EPA tests. My commute constantly beats 35 mpg, even with stop and go. One of the magzines said after the long term test, it was the only recent b segment car to meet or exceed its EPA mixed estimate.
That said, I clearly get why people get the fiesta -- toys! (Though the toys make it so heavy, the base motor fiesta is slower than an mt 2 despite have 20hp on it). Also, no one should ever buy an automatic 2., just a terrible transmission for 2013.

Pretty sure that 80 is meant to mirror the number arrangement on the speedo, since the 80 mph mark is at about the same angle.

Seconding this. The only time I haven't gotten more than 30mpg (this includes 80+ mph highway driving) was when I took it to VIR. I get 33mpg all day long, and 37 or 38mpg if I keep it at the speed limit.

VV - It's just a gauge hooked up to the MAP.

My BMW measures ~8-40+
I'll see the needle hit 40+ frequently as I idle down from 80 MPH on an offramp that has a 50 MPH cloverleaf at the end of it. The digital one in the new MINI stops at 99.9, and I see that any time my foot's off the gas.

Your logic is completely unassailable.

So, my most recent wagon ownership was a disaster (only in terms of satisfaction: financially it was amazing). I got what i considered a cool car (06 Magnum) for an amazing price in great condition. Then my wife decided she wanted to use it as her DD. Over the course of a few years it was slowly destroyed. It was a mental black hole that i tried to avoid thinking about because when i thought about that car it made me like our relationship less. Eventually she wrecked it well enough to convince me to sell it off, which i did. I think she has learned some lessons about car ownership and about pissing me off so i think her current car will fare much better.

But now the unfulfilled ambitions of my dead wagon are bubbling up. I looked at pictures of 2008 Magnums a few days ago and they make me very angsty.

Over on GRM forums they are currently arguing on the definition of wagon vs hatchback. Is your wrx a wagon?

Speaking of putting junk in your trunk and miatas being fruity, i guess ive never seen a pic of a miata with the penis wheels on it. Hmmm.

The WRX is a complete hoot and I could see myself on the receiving end of some nasty speeding tickets. I drove my coworker's 2011 with a Cobb 1 map, and the car was slammed packed and there was traffic on the freeway onramp, found an opening on the freeway, took it to just before fuel cut in 3rd, tapped the gas in 4th, brushed the brakes in 5th, and then looked down at the speedo: 100mph.

The only time I've hit 100 in the 2 was driving solo on VIR's front straight; I gained 7mph without a passenger.

This is a plus to the 2, it is very hard to get a 100mph ticket in.

Also, dailying a 100hp car and owning a 300hp car deals with the getting used to it factor. The engine mod bug is basically killed in me.
