Rooting won't solve the problem of your phone hanging when a rogue app grabs the CPU for a minute. You already have the tools you need to combat the problem with the recent app switcher and a power button that will reboot the phone if you hold it down long enough.

Otherwise I think everything that might come out between now and then won't be much of an upgrade over what's currently available. Samsung said March-April, I believe.

CES is like E3 for gadgets. Unless specifics about when a device is coming out you shouldn't count on it happening soon... or ever.

Realistically though I can't imagine you'll get a better bang to buck value than the N5 (in addition to a good phone now) from the S5 or anything else that will turn up at MWC.

I guess I was just thinking it was something on the phone itself, since it happened the morning after I initially set it up. I'll see if it comes back, though. My problem is not really knowing how to tell WHAT app is causing the issue.

Stock Android question: How do I get the music player to ignore the Ringtone folder?

Twiin posted:My HTC One X+ bit the dust and I'm thinking about picking up a Nexus 5 to replace it. But CES just happened and I figure there might be some new Android phone coming down the pipeline that I should wait for. Is the N5 still a good buy right now? I have a Nexus 5 and love it - wireless charging, great screen, untouched Android. My brother switched from an iPhone 4 to a Moto X and loves it. It's like a broken record at this point but the general consensus in this thread is that either Nexus 5 or Moto X are the best devices you can get, and if you're on Verizon apparently the new Droids are pretty good too.

Still don't have the foggiest what's up with your battery life. Last time I checked my N7, I was at 56% battery left with 5hrs 40 min of screen on time. Chewing up 25% with only 1hr 20min of screen on time seems a bit poor.

hooah posted:Those of you with the Nexus wireless charger: will it only attract things with magnets, or will magnetic metal (e.g. iron, cobalt) work? I have a Nexus 4 that obviously doesn't have magnets in it, but I got a magnetic car mount for Christmas that came with a plate to put in your case/phone, and it works great (except for my phone's back not quite closing all the way, which might finally entice me to get a case). I saw that whoever wrote up this guide to making a wireless charging car mount updated it with the Nexus charger, and I'm curious if the same thing would work for my phone. Thoughts? The Nexus charger has magnets in it. The phone (N5) just has metal disks in it. I can stick the tip of a USB cable to my charger, for example, but not to my phone.

Seeing it again, I think a better question would have been "Does the N5 have magnets in it or just metal that can be magnetized?" If it's the latter than I could use the charger in my setup. I'd still like a way to file down something so that my N4's back fits nicely with that plate in it.

I don't think you're going to be able to use wireless charging with a metal plate stuck in between your phone and the charging coil.
