For Sasuke to pull a believable face turn, he needs to stop being so goddamn smarmy for a little while. He doesn't seem to regret a single thing he has done. He had reasons, but those don't excuse anything. Granted, this isn't really the best time for contrition, but I really don't see him deciding to stop being a dick even once this battle is over.

I hope that, after this battle ends and there is finally peace between the ninja nations, war and violence do in fact return some years later. Naruto then realizes, upon introspection, that the moon eye plan really was the only way to achieve everlasting peace and that there is no meaningful distinction between reality and a dream indistinguishable from reality. Decades later we look back upon the series "Naruto" as an important philosophical text.

It's especially dumb when you consider the fact that the two main male leads of the series both had to deal with several orders of magnitude more trauma than Obito did. I would be willing to buy the fact that he could have been brain-washed after living with Madara/Plant-dude in a cave for months/years, but the manga itself seemed to push the angle that Rin's death was the catalyst.

While I don't think that's the greatest moment in the manga or anything, I do think that Sasuke's initial motivation for leaving to join Orochimaru because he felt like Naruto was outstripping him and that the training he was getting in such a nurturing environment was holding him back was pretty fantastic personally and wish the follow through in Shippunden had been as well done. I think it would have been better served if Sasuke had replaced Pain somehow as the rinnegan user who attacks the village. Not that Sasuke would have needed to die or anything, but I just think getting his redemption out of the way as it's own proper arc before this clusterfuck of a finale would have been a lot more satisfying. In the Naruto/Sasuke final battle at the waterfall Sasuke actually seemed to care about Naruto and the village, but thought it was necessary to sacrifice that emotion and his home to find the power needed to beat his brother. A fight where the focus was solely on them and how Naruto had managed to become stronger without abandoning the things he cares about in contrast to Sasuke and where Sasuke would be forced to acknowledge this and that he made the wrong choice and apologize for what he had done in the meantime is pretty much what I've expected since the end of the original manga. At this stage though he's such a jackass and honestly doesn't seem to give one single poo poo about anyone that I can't say as I really expect any of that anymore. tsob fucked around with this message at 02:43 on Jan 1, 2014 |

The dynamics of Naruto and co going to rescue Sasuke against all odds when Sasuke himself wanted to run away was pretty well written. Personally I thought it was a bit lame when the Sand ninja showed up to save the day. Up until that point it felt genuinely risky to almost all of the characters involved. The fact that Chouji convincingly 'died' at the time really put all the other characters' lives on the line. It could have marked a major turning point for the manga to have a character die off like that. It's a shame the author didn't stick with it.

Chouji says how if you take that pill you will 100% definitely die, and Neji gets a scene where he collapses and has a flashback or something (if I recall correctly; I just remember it clearly implying he was dead). *Only exception is that I would have liked Rock Lee to win his fight

Well, Kishimito is succeeding with making me hate Madara. I thought he was refreshingly honest and his attitude (fighting for world control? who needs that if I can spar with HASHIRAMA!) was cool. Now he is that unbeatable super god with the same Naruto-villain tendency for dumb moralizing monologues. It's come so far that I like Sasuke (!) more than Madara.

Alas poor Sasuke. We knew him well. Now we've lost both Naruto and Sasuke. There is no way that this is a planned trap. :sarcasm: Madara can take care of infinitly regenerating zombies with infinite chakra by stabbing their chakra points with rods? Well, as long as they're in there I suppose that makes sense.  So how did he take care of the second? One page the second is attacking his head after teleporting and the next the second is on the floor with multiple rods in his back. That takes care of the second, now what are the third and the fourth doing? Oh yeah, the fourth is shooting the poo poo with Kakashi and Black Zetsu.
