It seems like it's about time for us to get an explanation on why Eva said that only Touta and Karin would survive forever.

I am so glad Akamatsu was finally able to realize his true calling of drawing action manga :allears:. Also based on the previous chapters, I wonder how many kids and townsfolk are even going to be left alive by the time the fights end. My gut says that he's not going to have killed off the kids and nuns, but then he's not exactly pulling punches elsewhere.

I've really been enjoying this series! Such great action! It bears repeating that the immortality thing is great since it provides a nice loophole to show really brutal, raw physical contact fighting without the sense of artifice that most other shonen action manga have.

Yeah, this chapter in particular made me realize just how true that is. And as has also been said, it actually makes things more suspenseful; in any other manga it would be obvious that Touta and Kuromaru were going to manage, somehow, but here you really do worry what's going to happen to them.

It's also interesting because there's so many things that are worse than death when the stakes are this high.

Also, I'm already invested in Kuromaru and Karin at this point but even though I don't despise Touta like some seem to he hasn't exactly made me cheer for him either.

Touta lacks motivation. He does whatever seems fun, and latches on to other people's dreams on a whim. I'm sure this will change, but right now he isn't all that interesting.

I'm getting more and more curious about Karin's backstory. Gods? I don't remember those being in Negima. Well, maybe the Lifemaker was one. I guess we might never know, now. :smith:

gently caress every other character, this needs to just be the Karin show. She is by far the coolest character we've seen so far, and I can see why she's supposedly th top tier of immortality, considering she essentially doesn't exist in the same plane.

Honestly not sure how he's going to survive this. I'm sure he will somehow, though, because named little kids don't die in shonen manga, unless it's a flashback. (I'm sure someone is going to find an exception to this rule that I've missed.)

Is that Magica Erebea? It'd make sense, since overuse of that supposedly turned Negi into a demon/monster, that it might have passed on something similar

Touta was totally channeling Negi in the full body shot there... I wonder if its Magica Erebea or something new, either way, I love the way that it manifested as a loving rocket punch.

How can Akamatsu have wasted so much time doing Harem manga, as good as he is at them. He is so suited to writing battle manga!

Even after reading through all of Negima, I still find it kind of hard to believe that the guy who wrote and drew Love Hina of all things (which is still a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine and is better than most harem manga because it has actual character development) has proven to be one of the best battle manga authors. I hope that all along this is the kind of thing he really wanted to draw. I want him to be really happy with this series.

vvvv I am pretty sure he wasn't happy with that ending either, but he had a justifiable reason for doing it.

To be serious though, UQ Holder is awesome so far. I have no idea where it will go, but I have complete faith it will be amazing. Akamatsu is not only great at drawing battle scenes, his character development and plotting are top notch too! I'm such a fanboy...

To be fair, even Love Hina got a little shonen battle manga-y towards the end. Didn't he get his start drawing porn or something? That's probably the easy way to get started, and now his transformation is nearly complete.

It was both of them. That's (apparently) one of the reasons he puts his wife in everything, she married him even when he was a penniless doujin artist.

Akamatsu used to do doujins. There's one floating around with horrible quality and translation with the ladies of FF7. That said...

Don't get me started on this. I have an issue with the "character development" of Love Hina. Also he ended up with the wrong girl :colbert:

Fun fact: I believe he even did one for obscure Squaresoft action RPG "Threads of Fate." Akamatsu was just a Square guy, I guess.

I didn't know that trivia about his wife marrying him when he made doujin, though. That's really badass.

Really? I just started playing through that on my Vita. Neat. Man, Akamatsu's gone from straight up porn to not being sure how to draw a nipple. Being a manga author must be hell.

I would suggest reading the Kyoto arc, the back end of the Magical Festival arc, and then going to the magical world, because it gives you a lot of background, since you meet the main bad guy of the magic world arc in Kyoto, and find out a lot of stuff in the festival arc from the bad guy that makes a reveal in the magic world arc (and the ending) make a little more sense.

Someone reading Negima for background would also need to read the Eva arc. And the tournament arc because the tournament arc owned and had some great fights.
