AWWW BUSTED! Yeah, it's a Roof. I need a more conventional lid, I'm fairly certain I'm the only person the DFW that runs that Frog lid. ...At least I wasn't speeding.

The last time we went for a ride, HiggsBoson and I started with brunch at The Pub up in McKinney. It looks like motorcycleroads.com is doing serious rennovation, so I can't find the route that we were trying to follow . I know it started with 546, went north at 982, and I think we followed 1377 for a while? I don't remember what road we ended up on further north, but it was amazing. Good elevation changes, good scenery, great road surface, and diversity in corners. I think it was 2729?

I saved the directions for it. Not sure if I can make it out this sunday though. ETA: I also have the turn by turn they had because I seem to remember the google maps not being the same. The route can start in Pilot Point - off hwy 377 or Celina - off hwy 289 (both north of DFW). Head East on 455 until you reach HWY 75. Turn southbound on the service road and follow it until you come to the end. This road will be County Road 275. Cross over the bridge and you will land onto hwy 5 which turns in McDonald street. Turn South and follow the road through the East side of McKinney, TX. Make a left on Industrial Blvd. Follow until you reach South airport drive which turns into hwy 546. It will run into a stop sign and keep left on hwy 546. Turn onto FM 982. You will run into hwy 380. Make a right on hwy 380 and then an immediate left onto North 4th street. At stop sign make a right onto North 6th street which will dead end onto FM 1377, go right. Follow the road until you reach FM 545. Go left on FM 545 until you reach HWY 121. At the intersection of HWY 121 you can go straight to HWY 5 and then North or take HWY 121 to reach Tom Beam (preferred is hwy 5 route so I'll post it). North on HWY 5 until you reach FM 121 in Van Alstyne. Stay on FM 121 until you see FM 729 and turn left straight into Tom Beam. From Tom Beam take HWY 11 East to Whitewright. At Whitewright go left onto HWY 69 North. A few miles and left onto FM 697.

I live in McKinney and I'm getting tired of riding by myself. I'm not sure how much time I can get for myself on Sunday, though, as I usually have to borrow it from my wife and kids. How long you typically spend on a ride like this?

We met at about 11:00am for brunch and rode pretty much the entire afternoon. But we also got lost a few times. It wouldn't be a big deal to join us for or just after brunch and ride with us for as long as you want. Also, I have a second Sena SMH10 (http://senabluetooth.com/product/intercoms/smh10/) from a twin-pack that I'd like to sell to a local goon. Would be pretty boss to be able to intercom with other people in the group.

Do I hear a goon ride being assembled? I'm amiable to the idea if y'all are looking for more. Though you gotta go slow, my poor little scooter isn't the fastest thing in the world with my fat rear end perched on it.

All right, cool, that sounds pretty manageable. I'll work on freeing up that afternoon because I don't know how long this weather will last. I've been riding only a bit over two years and I've only ever gone out by myself, so I hope I wouldn't be a drag on the group if I were able to go. I've got a first gen SV650, if it matters.

I got off the exit for 5 and just kept going for like 10 miles. I ended up turning around. On the way back on 5 there was a sign for the "historic downtown mckinney". I made the correct guess and ended up on Virginia. As reported there was construction at that corner and the signs are missing. (I went right by your place I knew i should had offered to go up together.) Some dang fine roads. Not quite up to what I'm used to but definitely entertaining. Thanks for hosting the ride kuffs.

No problem Skreemer. Sorry I had to take off earlier than I wanted In spite of how awful things are today, Weather Underground is forecasting 65~70 this weekend. Anyone else got ideas for a ride?

I'm installing new steel brake lines and new brake pads on the front today (if my garage is warm enough) or tomorrow. Would it be stupid to go on a group ride with new pads? I'd love to get out this weekend if the weather is good and another ride gets put together, but EBC says you're supposed to ride extra careful for the first 300 friggin miles and at my rate that will take months. It's going to be either that or a homebrew session, so I'm going to have a good time either way, dammit. This has been a lovely week.

# ? Jan 23, 2014 18:05 |

As long as you're only doing the brakes on one end of the bike you'll at least have a backup. We don't ride especially hard, and there's certainly no need to feel pressured to push yourself or the bike.

If you miss Virginia (which is easy if you're coming north on 75) the next easiest thing to do might be to exit 380 / University, go east, and loop back around. You can hang a right on McDonald St. (aka State Highway 5) and follow it south to Virginia, turn right again, and the Pub is five blocks ahead on the right. You all may already know this but the Pub has an older sister in downtown Plano called the Fillmore, which is where I hung out a lot before we moved to McK. Also a cool place--not as roomy but I like it a little better. The brake pads and lines went on with no issues yesterday, and as long as I'm a little heavier with my right foot I can still stop okay. I've got a fresh oil change and chain lube too, so unless the weather is really bad or there's some family emergency, I'm riding this Sunday.

I took Ray whatsit Tollway to 5, then got lost, spent about 25 minutes working back to 75, then 75 .. and got lost again. Then ...... some street with a shell station on the corner. It was kind of pathetic. I'll figure it out eventually.

I haven't tried taking that route, but then again I live at Virginia & Custer so whenever I go downtown I just head straight east on Virginia. If the consensus is to meet in HDMcK and if anyone needs help finding it, I can meet somewhere more convenient along 75 or SRT/121 and act as a guide.

But recently they've decided to turn their music up way loud and it really ruins the place. If everyone's thinking about starting out in McKinney again, we can do the same route that I've been running for a bit http://www.motorcycleroads.com/75/1091/Texas/North-Dallas---455-onto-697.html. 697 is the real gem of that trip and it looks like Skreemer and I missed out on a good chunk of it because I forgot where to turn in Tom Bean. It's kinda short once you get the hang of it, maybe we could skip over to Bonham at the end of the route and try this guy http://www.motorcycleroads.com/75/557/Texas/Texas-Turns-Turns--More-Turns.html ? The only downside being the 30 min slab between the two. edit: fixed second link kuffs fucked around with this message at 20:48 on Jan 24, 2014 |
