Because it let's you easily grep out user, arguments (probably with auxwww), or whatever else you want to filter on with the rest of the one liner the same. aux or auxwww gets you all the information you need on all systems

That's a good point, but I think the reference is only the punchline. I'd say the heart of the message can transcend cultures regardless. heck, you can just reply the statement in text. I don't think "dynamic" means what you think it means.

Haven't replied yet (timezones!), but when I do it will probably be something like "Actually, it IS dynamic. Please stop sending us dumb tickets" - had to close one of them yesterday with "please stop sending us dumb tickets" so there's always the hope that it will eventually sink in.

Today I had a user who was smart enough to turn off "hide protecting operating system files" but not smart enough not to accidentally delete NTLDR and stop his PC from booting. Of course he is a VP so he gets full administrator rights and never lets me see his computer. I had to sneak into his office and copy over the NTLDR from another windows XP box while he was out picking up his kids from school. He just wanted me to give him an XP install disc and come back later, probably after he had accidentally wiped his drive, presumably to spend thousands of dollars on data recovery

Not sure if it was here or another thread, but there was a legit source for MS ISOs posted somewhere. I need a copy of XP MCE 2005 (stop laughing at the back!) for a reinstall, anyone have any ideas? The only problem I've had with ESET remote admin is sometimes the push installs will bomb out for reasons you wouldn't even expect and the install log won't really tell you why.

The only reason I consider Trend an upgrade over McAfee is because I never witnessed Trend randomly deciding to delete system files like McAfee did. However I'm pretty sure the only reason it didn't delete system files was, because like you mentioned, it never deleted anything.

Trend is an AV enough for MSP's to call an A/V and still enough to make money off virus removal. It's best thing is that it works to ensure an IT need for some users.

Is there a goon consensus on what AV is actually worth its salt? I service computers for a living and the only paid one we sell now is Kaspersky, which we've had good luck with -- we almost never see clients who are using it come back with serious infections. Haven't given the latest version a good testing yet though. For free ones, I would have said MSE a year ago, but lately I've seen more an more infections missed by it, and I gather even MS is admitting that it's slipping in quality.

A client my previous company supported had a HORRIBLE instance of Kaspersky loving up 4 months or so. They updated from Kaspersky Security Centre 9 to 10, and it bricked every single computer running Kaspersky on the network; they were completely unresponsive. We had to send someone to site and restore from a VHD from the night before just so we could get on the server to fix the drat thing. Nightmare.

Trend is pretty worthless, I can't count the number of times I've worked with clients that got some serious virus or malware that almost every other AV program had a fix for YEARS ago. The company I work for uses Symantec Cloud (SEP) and it's been alright so far, not a huge resource hog and catches most of what comes through (the only exception recently being Cryptolocker when it first came out). Trend and McAfee can eat a dick, the 2 most worthless AV companies, period. Kaspersky is alright, and some clients have had ESET with no problems, I'd go with either of those over anything else.

We use F-Secure, upon my recommendation based on research, and an anecdote posted on these boards at one time. It's been working away nicely for some time now, and it doesn't make much of a fuss. The management tools are decent enough. Beat the piss out of Sophos that it replaced, in my experience anyway.
