That's because outside of Raiden and 5 minutes of Sunny there isn't a single returning character from the rest of the series. And yeah, Kojima was probably involved in it as much as he was on Castlevania: LoS.

Well, okay. MGS4 was pretty weak installment, filled with bad exposition and lame explanations of a lot of the mystery behind the series (Nanomachines, son.) Metal Gear Rising was Platinum Games' own doing, as Hideo couldn't figure out what to do with it. And while Hideo loves his fanservice, Quiet has to be the most flagrant. And then there's the $40 Ground Zeroes that's like a... Demo? A tech demo? I did totally forget Peace Walker exists and is said to be pretty good, though.
