It's all "guy on the internet" to you, but the person I got it from is, in my book, pretty reliable. There's a lot of ex-studio staff hanging around Dublin and the like, and they still keep in touch with the HQ guys. The district manager I had when I was a redshirt is now running Warhammer World, for example (he is not the source).

I've gotten to the point where I only believe it until I see the photos. Also, they haven't done a "big box" release since Dreadfleet. That was 2 years ago. We've had as many years of rumours of big box releases as we have actual "big box" releases.

I would really love for them to make Epic or BFG again

The only problem is that it's being made by a company that has only worked on movie games in the past.

GW is pretty has been farming out the license almost exclusively to terrible studios that have no business making games (with the exception of the now-defunct Relic). The only possible explanation is that GW is greedy as gently caress and demands ridiculous royalties in exchange for the license, resulting in proper developers laughing in their faces, while terrible studios with "movie game" money see it as an opportunity to make some easy cash from fanatics that will buy anything with 40k on the box.

Years ago some goon did a Let's Play of it, and found the original unit editing tools on a yahoo group setup by one of the devs after it all collapsed. I have had a LOT of fun with them by doing stuff like making Space Marines actually not miss all the time and just making "tank Bolters" be regular Heavy Bolters.... and then giving lots of them to Orks. I also figured out how to make new weapons, so Planetary Guard became Tanith First and Only sniper teams. Good times.

I tried looking for the LP, sadly all the images are long gone :smith:

Otherwise, the game was relatively easy, and ridiculously so when you got Titans?

I seem to recall from what i played the Orks always started showing up with Titans/much heavier tanks far before i got them. Honestly i was really young when i played that game, so i was probably pretty awful at it. However i do recall sitting there and spending hours just reading the massive manual and looking at all the cool 40k stuff.

Right, he got back to me. Apparently the methodology for getting Chaos Gate working is thus:

Copy the .exe from the CD to the PC, run it in Win95/98 as administrator.

Run the game client in Win95/98 compatibility more.

Game shits out in mission 3 :smith:

That's the assault on the fortress? I think I experiencied that bug more than a decade ago :smith:

The truth is Chaos Gate's code is a mess and it's performance varies widely from computer to computer, the only way I know it works smoothly is using a windows 95 emulator like virtual pc or installing it in an older computer.

You know, it wouldn't be hard to mod final liberation to add in a faction or two. It's all sprites anyway.

On the chaos gate front, I have final liberation and chaos gate working perfectly well on my lovely notebook. It's XP still, and it was just a matter of installing them (I have the discs, weirdly enough). The same notebook also has shadow of the horned rat, dark omen and rites of war on it. All run without any comparability shenanigans, just bog standard XP.

I should probably do an LP of final liberation at least.

They would, because there would be a very limited force selection and no chance of expansion. At best, you'd get a Titan vs. Titan slugfest (like Adeptus Titanicus) and a generic space combat game, but both would be very simplistic and nowhere near the originals.

Might as well just ask why 99% of defeats don't result in Exterminatus by the losing faction. Every faction outside the Tau have shown themselves to be incredible sore losers, so one often wonders why upon losing the ground battle they don't immediately destroy the planet out of spite.

No, it's a pretty sound reason. While it's possible the Imperium would destroy Cadia if they lost it (which they haven't), it's too valuable a strategic position for Abaddon (who's a pragmatist) to destroy it out of spite - without the Cadian Gate, he loses the ability to launch large-scale incursions into the Imperium.

Isn't it set-up to be some kind of Space-Gibraltar? Like the Imperium holds it because it's not only a strategic point but because it's always been held against enemy attacks. If they lost it they'd dump a few trillion guardsmen on it just to have an Eagle somewhere on the planet. Am I over analyzing pulp sci fi again?

Yes, but it isn't just "held to be held," it's the first Imperial system right outside the Eye of Terror. It's the bulwark that stops the full force of the Chaos Black Crusades from getting into the Imperium - kind of like a wave slamming against a seawall.
