I love the art in this strip because it's such a perfect window to the 90's.
I mean, look at the shirt on that guy. I feel like I'm once more eating pizza with some friends, waiting for our turn at laser tag while Ren and Stimpy blares on a large screen made out of smaller TVs.

No joke: I wore that same exact outfit as the guy is wearing to my freshman prom (the only prom I ever went to) around the time of that strip. Paisley shirts were a thing in the early/mid-90s, and I was lookin' pretty fly with my paisley shirt, Dockers pants, and Skechers shoes at the prom. The two ladies I went with agreed

Ed's disconnect from reality is showing again. In the urban east coast area of the US where I live (not NYC), a one bedroom apartment is about 550-650 square feet, which is still pretty fine for multiple people. Oh, and if it's in a not horrible area and is near a bus line, it'll cost ya somewhere above US $1750/month plus utilities.

[Edit to add about roommates.]

Guess this comes from living in the frozen north where space is plentiful and all that but multiple people in a one bedroom apartment that size and that price sounds like my idea of hell, the -22C weather suddenly doesn't feel that cold, it could plainly, be worse.

Other than what I guess will be later revelations that show Juliette and Edna have a really weird relationship devoid of any sort of filter about sex that normally exists between mother and daughter, I will say those are likely the best teeth McEldowney has ever drawn. They still have pulpy dough faces, but the teeth actually look sort of human rather than hideous hellmaws.
