The CR-Z's mileage is downright terrible for a Prius-sized hybrid. Which is weird because I had a 2010 Insight (which is basically a bigger CR-Z) with the same motor and the CVT transmission, and I regularly got in the high 40s for mileage.

I'm struggling to think of how someone can be stupid enough to want such a vehicle (excluding people dodging needing a heavy articulated license), yet rich enough to afford it.

There is one of these in town (the smaller version ) that is wrapped in a CrossFit vinyl job and sits out front of the place as a mobile sign. There is a profound irony in using a thing like this to advertise CrossFit of all things, but all the dudes I've ever met IN CrossFit all have extreme cases of small man syndrome so maybe it isn't that ironic.

You just know that they're not ludicrous enough for some people stock, so I had to see how people modify those huge trucks. I started looking at terrible 4x4 forums and found a bunch of trucks. Lots of questionable and baffling stuff but then I got distracted so a bunch are awesome as gently caress. It's the beige and the subtle graphics that make this one a real work of art. Box trucks need more style Tow trucks too I have no idea what this is but I like it. OK, the first one of these really confused me, but the second made me feel like I was missing something. Is this a thing? OK, not a real truck but I saw it, who cares. 1960 JEEP WILLYS 4X4 ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD LIKE THIS. BODY IS HAND BUILT FROM MAPLE AND CHERRY 1'' THICK GLUED AND SCREWED EVERY 4 INCHES 10 COATS OF SPAR VARNISH. TITLED AND STREET LEGAL. A MUST SEE

I was going to make a joke about crumple zones but in a 1960s jeep the occupants are probably the crumple zone regardless.

Nocheez posted:The CR-Z is not exactly a great gas mileage vehicle. It's rated at 31/37 mpg for the US, which is pretty crappy for a 2-seater hybrid. Doesn't the Camry hybrid get better mileage than that? Yeah. Unless 31/37 is an absurd underrating, that's downright terrible for a little 2-seater. The Camry hybrid, Lexus ES300h, and Avalon hybrid all share the same ~200hp combined Toyota HSD drivetrain, and are all rated for somewhere around 40/39. (They aren't completely the same platform though. The Camry has a shorter wheelbase than the other two.) For what it's worth, the city part of that rating is unrealistic if you aren't willing to drive like a hypermiler, figure on more like 35. The highway part is easy to beat by 1-2 MPG if you set the cruise control for 65mph.

Oh hey, look. http://www.cherrybronco.com/cars.php Terrible photos on their site and terrible detail on the cars but they started with a Bronco and built a shitload of wood cars. The jeep photos originally came from craigslist so I guess some of the others are out in the world with various owners. I was very wrong, totally awesome.

They sure look like regular old heavy duty truck chassis with a smaller cab and bed put on top. I wouldn't drive one, I already have a big dumb 20,000lb pickup with a 7x14 foot bed. It cost a hell of a lot less than those do, is diesel, and has a manual transmission. I recommend you all buy one instead Bonus: they come in convertible, hardtop, gas, diesel, auto, manual... you name it. Doccers' girlfriend and I already each have one, who's next in AI?

Could get behind the idea if I move somewhere with a little more space, even though it's surely a path of pain, frustration, and expense. How much did it cost? How's the diesel consumption? I sorta like the idea of hauling everything I own at once. Or just setting up a rolling party on the back. Can you get an average-sized sedan up in there?
