Are you doing the sidequest that has you look for Quina? If so, I believe you're running past the entrance to Witchwood, where you should be going. Just follow the road south from that small canyon you enter the area with. If the bandits are giving you trouble on the road there, I believe going at night will replace some of them with wolves.

The MMO-esque kill quests aren't really sidequests that you set out to complete, so much as they are sidequests that you pick up and end up finishing while doing other stuff. Escorts just aren't worth doing at all unless you really want the reward from one. There's like a million of them. Seriously, just ignore that poo poo. If you've already done everything near the starting area, you're probably best off doing the everfall main quest. Just remember that sometimes you're best off just running away from certain things.

Also worth noting that your travel options open up significantly over time. There's a shortcut through the quarry that makes it much easier to move between Gran Soren and the southwest of the map, and ferrystones (bought from Fournival or the Black Cat) end up being pretty cheap pretty soon.

You're right that the game doesn't give much direction but I feel like that becomes less of a problem once you get a bit past where you are right now.

As lame as it sounds, I just wish quests had level numbers associated with them ala an MMO. Or just make a red title for "YOURE GOING TO GET hosed IN THIS SIDEQUEST." I have no idea what I should be trying to do immediately and what I should just not be caring about.

If it's not given to you by a person, ignore it. Certain parts of the map are leveled so areas in the southwest near the bandit fortress and way up north will be really tough, even when you're supposed to go there.

SoggyBobcat

Yeah, you shouldn't really be grinding the notice board quests. You'll be completing them naturally over the course of the game. The only exception are the quests from the Alehouse.

Pick up a pig and throw it at a pawn, it's even better than throwing people off rooftops (not quite as good as dumping them down the everfall, though)

Picking up a soldier in armor and dropping him on a rock about 20 feet down is so satisfying, it's like a bag of metal hitting the ground.

I could do this all day long, really enjoying the game. I've mainly just been doing this for a few hours now, don't really want to do anything else.

Ugh. There's this Cursed Dragon in the Pilgrim's Gauntlet that I just can't beat. It is a story related dragon that pops up when I pick up the Void Key, but I can't seem to kill him (Magic Archer). I think I need the key to progress to the lower level of BBI. Am I just not highlevel enough? I've heard of people of <lvl 50 that were able to beat BBI? What am I doing wrong? I did not do that much damage with Kisses on his heart, but Sixfold Bolt or whatever it is did not do poo poo either. In the end I just Grand Scenscioned in his general direction, jumping on the heart when possible. Got him down to three bars, but I burned through like 8 Wakestones during the fight before I had to retry.

Sixfold can't kill everything. Cursed Dragons are extremely weak to Fire. Use Explosive Rivet on its heart, launch 3-4 volleys at it, then run up and detonate them. It'll knock the dragon on its side and you can pepper it with more explosives. They're also extremely aggressive, so you're going to dodge roll a lot. You definitely want to play defensively, shoot, dodge, shoot, dodge, etc. until you stunlock it.

The only Cursed Dragon that you have to beat is part of a boss fight and even that is a nerfed version. The Void Keys you can just pick up and book out of wherever you are. Beating BBI at a low level usually comes down to abusing stacking buffs and/or throwblasts, beating Gazer for example can be done at any level with throwblasts.

A Real Happy Camper

I beat the Gazer really easily by hiding behind a pillar that was just above the staircase and slowly plonking arrows at its eye. Run around when it starts shooting tentacles and keep behind cover when it does that big glowy stare thing and you should be fine. The only attack that's worth worrying about is when it makes that big magic eye but that's pretty easy to deal with and lets you do a TON of damage.

I did kill that cursed dragon after you pick up that key, but I ended out popping in and out of the hallways to heal either with magic or by just letting my health regenerate since I had some immortal's armour on.

I could never even touch Gazer until I got down on the ground floor where the game decided that I actually had a valid angle on his eye. I have no idea how people would even begin to fight him with Throwblasts since you can't even aim those, just kinda heave them a few feet in front of you.

The cursed dragon guarding that void key can be run from, but you can also cheese it to death by running upstairs into the gallery. It will fly up in the air and hover for a very long time before breathing, giving you an easy shot at it's heart. This method will take a long as time though since when you hit it it is likely to fall to the floor and have to fly back up again, every time.

Use the explosive barrels (or Throwblasts if you have enough extra) to kill a couple of the tentacles so it tries to attack you with the large spike tentacle from the ground (killing tentacles isn't strictly necessary, but it seems to hurry it along). Get it to poke it's eye out, jump and throw Throwblasts at its eye until it flops down and you get the music change, then continue throwing Throwblasts. After this he'll do the magic cannon attack, just kill those tentacles and throw Throwblasts at its eye until its dead.

If you want to know how, click the question mark under my av and search for Gazer. Doing these BBI only runs has certainly taught me a lot about the game and given a new appreciation for some classes (ranger, fighter). One shotting Living Armors at around lvl 40 is never not funny.

Yeah, I just charge right through that area every time. It's a slaughtering pen, and I'm positive it was intended as such, since the Lich that spawns in the opening hallways immediately summons enough cannon-fodder undead to trigger the Garms just as you hit the Gorecyclops room.

Your class will determine this. I'd suggest you at least have tier 3 weapons and use periapts. Maybe sometime after 100?

Horace Kinch
Aug 15, 2007

*Level 100+ with T3 weapons with both the Fighter/Warrior or Mag/Sorcerer STR/MAG enhancing augments are required. The Assassin augment that boosts damage when you're unaccompanied by pawns helps too, since they're just going to blindly charge into his scythe. If you can push your damage over 2500 unbuffed then you're ready to chug periapts and ice that motherfucker. As a rule of thumb, if you can kill True Daimon, your damage is high enough to puncture Death's stupidly high damage threshold.

Or you can just spam blast arrows.

That's one of the easiest rooms in BBI as a Sorcerer, just use High Maelstrom on them from the balcony and instantly kill everything but the cyclops, which also go down like chumps to that spell. High Maelstrom in general is just infinitely more useful on the isle than in the base game, it's crazy good for dealing with almost everything.

Just started playing this a few days ago and it's fun but now I'm kind of having my indecision regarding character classes kick in as it always does. Character level is in the teens, with the time being spent as either a Strider or Fighter. Now thinking of going Assassin in a while, but also tempted to try Magick Archer. Simply put I'm seeing too many attractive options.

Is there a helpful mindset to approach levelling with? And how easy is it to end up with a gimped character by swapping classes too much?

If you want to go Magick Archer or Mystic Knight you'll need to spend some time in the Mage classes, because most of their damage comes from the Magic stat. Beyond that, I don't think it's that easy to screw yourself over, since most of the classes take care of themselves - the Assassin class has horrible defense growth, for example, but also comes with two insta-counter moves that nearly one-shot anything without six health bars.

You'll want to put some ranks into Fighter to gain the Augment that lets you carry more weight, though, it's super helpful.
