That was loving amazing. I beginning to wonder if the season finale will have Morty's parents deciding to divorce because an inordinate amount of episodes so far have focused on their marital troubles with really nothing to come of it.

Did anyone else think the animation looked a lot smoother this episode? It looked fantastic. This was a great episode. Tough to match up to last week. But Jesus, that ending was phenomenal.

Tuxedo Jack posted:My DVR decided this wasn't a new episode. Thankfully I caught it and manually recorded. What the gently caress, Cox? Tribune Media Services (provides guide data to nearly all providers) has been messed up for a few days now. They don't have Rick and Morty flagged as new. My Verizon DVR would have missed it too had I not noticed. What's really odd is Colbert had a guest last week talking about voles and oxytocin and how that makes them mate for life. The sound mixed sounded messed up to me. Dialog was clear, but no effects had punch. For example, you could barely hear the shotgun. Sound mix has been messed up on [as] since at least yesterday in a different way. Center channel is coming out of the left rear channel. This has been happening on anything that's not native 5.1 ( commercials, older SD shows).

So I think this was supposed to be the second episode and they bumped it up according to some interview, which makes sense to me, the humor didn't feel quite as developed as the last two. Love the show.

I loved the subtle joke for the TV show. "I'm pregnant, what's the worst that can happen?" "We interrupt 'My Pregnant Baby' for this report."

It felt like an unnecessary counterbalance to the original point that the world is sometimes super hosed up.

I never thought I'd laugh so much at a 14 year old coming face to face with his own brutal mortality. This show has a ton of existential themes and mines the humor out of the absurdity of the brief human existence like nothing I've ever seen. It's like if Sartre wrote jokes. In the first episode there's a brief gag when they are running from the bug dudes, where Morty inhales some weird drug and coughs out a cloud that becomes a being that grows old and dies in the span of like three seconds, and as the significance of that begins to dawn on Morty, Rick's all "Don't think about it". They called back to that here, I love that it's becoming a running gag. zoux fucked around with this message at 06:38 on Jan 28, 2014 |

The ending felt good enough to be season finale, and yet it's only episode five. No idea how they're going to top Morty burying his own corpse after being forced to abandon his family in a post apocalyptic hellscape, but I'm sure they'll find a way.

Dan Harmon is a pretty divisive figure around these parts, so I'd imagine a lot of people are hesitant to give another show he's attached to a shot. Plus new Adult Swim shows are easy to miss out on unless you already watch a lot of Adult Swim/the other cable networks they advertise on.

I mean, how many times can Morty bury his own corpse and kill his parents before he picks up the bottle too?

They can only do that kind of concept a couple times before it becomes tired as an easy way of writing yourself out of a situation. Or, to make it into a Community reference, you can only do paintball so many times.

It helps puts us in Morty's shoes at the end where he's walking around stunned looking at the world which is simultaneously his home and utterly alien. I use Chronenberg as a verb whenever I try and write a body horror scene in a short film. So I was happy to hear that. So I was already laughing at the body horror stuff, and then when they called "Chronenbergs"...loving killed me. But gently caress man. That ending. This show is now the king of tonal changes. Absolutely incredible. Probably my favorite episode so far. I was actually taken a back when Rick and Morty died.
