Finally I know how they are making their money; enforcing exclusive contracts so devs can't even get multiple revenue streams going. I wouldn't mind trying to run a download only grog store.

Their earlier games (I've bought and played Storm Over the Pacific and Strategic War in Europe) are rather generic and unpolished. Naval bombardment in the Pacific game never worked for the longest time (among other bugs) and the AI was pretty bad. I guess I should give it another shot, but I'm not really hoping for much.

It's been on greenlight for ages, even if it gets greenlit the likely chain of events is Valve: "This is a £20-25 game, you'll need to price at that level if you want sales based on our massive database of spending patterns of millions of people". Matrix: "Nope".

I got into more serious wargames through Paradox games so it's possible that the success of games like CK2 and the upcoming HoI4 will lead more people to Gary Grigsby's war on sane prices. I think.

You can stick some light forces in Palembang and Soerbaja and try to interfere with the landings once the carriers inevitably pull back to resupply but you can't oppose the Japanese carriers if they stick together.

The timetable in early 1942 is very tight for the Japanese. Most players, AI included, are going to have operations running without carrier cover. Destroy those. If he responds by rerouting KB, hit the area he just left.Honestly, knowing where the KB is is a major boon for the Allies in 1942. Its when you don't know thats terrifying. By July you can consider rolling the dice on a general carrier engagement if you are under LBA cover.

The Belgian player is starting to realise that free-setup is not an excuse to go for a forwards defence and I suspect the French/British players may be starting to realise that obviously we're not going to go for the Manstein plan when they've set up specifically to defend against it. It's gonna be good though, just you wait! It's enough to make me wish they'd turn around and work on War in the East 2.0 right after. As for Decisive Campaigns, any advice on defending as Poland? I found formulating a plan as Germany straightforward enough, especially after the first goon game I played, but the Polish side is a little overwhelming and I can't quite decide between moving my troops to more defensible positions (read: not at the border and behind river lines) and giving up all of the pre-existing fortification levels.

It depends. There's a reason for the goon game where I defended that I insisted on the better strategy variant - you just can't do anything when before your first turn half your armies are already encircled or are in the process of being encircled. You cannot fight in the open. You need to either be in a forest/city or behind a river or 2 turns worth of entrenchment. I set a big trap for you guys south of Warsaw that you handily fell into but I wouldn't expect that to work twice or against the AI. You need to pick in advance where you are going to defend and stick to that plan because you cannot go mobile like the Germans can. Your divisions are weaker and there are fewer of them - your only advantage is in using the terrain to force fights at certain points that you intend to turn into meatgrinders.

It's completely standalone using the 3.0 engine instead of BN/FI's 2.0 engine. There will probably be a $35+ addon module down the line which will bring the full game up to the $80+ pricepoint we all know and love but that'll be a ways in the future.
