Actually, has JD ever done anything normal? He can't speak, he doesn't really get girls, he listens to lovely techno music, and his entire job is just dicking around online all day, every day.

Early on he looked like a fairly normal, if awkward and dorky, 20 year old guy who would eventually grow into his own face.

He didn't.

Yeah I figured some people there might like it. No one can tear into it like this thread can though.

Some of the comedians have been great so far. Lena Dunham got pretty vicious and I lost it at Sarah & Natalie Maines singing about Robin's cancer.

I think it would have been an awesome interview on the actual show, but it just killed the flow of the birthday bash.

Yeah apart from an iffy start I think it's been a great show. Better than I expected anyway.

And good on Dave Grohl for making sure that Howard had a real drink or two, he's always pulling that "I'm sooo drunk" routine. Most everybody else seems sloshed, have some fun Howie.

Much like with everything else in life, the Euros seem to have more sense on how to do things in a fun atmosphere without sucking the soul out of the event.
This is the male equivalent of some girl going to a wedding to show up the bride. He needs attention to validate everything he does and this is a prime example of it.

I see it as a subtle, self-aware joke. Benjy doesn't bother me, and it seems like he's been on damage control with his on-air relationships since that spat with Fred a few months ago.

I agree this seems more like a joke poking fun at himself than anything.

The birthday show was fun to listen to I am a little surprised. The music was drat good

Let's say it's some meta joke on himself, who there on that staff can grasp that concept readily? He's not Kaufman, nobody's trying to dig deeper for the meaning of a joke by a man who makes himself known as a comedian by impulse behavior that could be done by your typical crazy bum.

I SEE DEMONS
I was surprised at how good it got after a rough beginning. The surprise Letterman interview was great.

Also I think I changed my mind on Benji. If the rest of the staff aren't in on it, Benji's schtick is pretty amazing when you think he's been doing it for this long. He basically does what he wants, including consistently come in late, pissing off Gary and Howard, etc; It's Kaufman-like to have that devotion.

It's not up for streaming on the Sirius app yet, so I need an MP3. Since it was a public broadcast, that's not FILES, right?

^Agreed. I really like Artie, but based on the information he's given out in past interviews, I find it reasonable that he's not attending Stern Show functions.

I'm confused about "shots of straight vodka" I think they chose vodka because they could substitute water for it. You straight shoot tequila or whiskey. Nobody but an alcoholic has the skills to shoot a straight shot of vodka and enjoy it.

You are silly, vodka is a great sipping drink and has been Howard's drink of choice since before TV cameras would film them.

Also I think Howard is drinking really nice vodka, not rite aid vodka.

Vodka is my go to for mixed drinks, but even the best of the best vodkas are horrifying as straight shots.

But if he somehow developed a taste for it then good for him, I guess.

Now that the Birthday Bash is over, I have to ask - in your opinion, what is the "Golden Era" of Stern? I was largely an E! viewer growing up and enjoyed Stern after he made the jump to Sirius. I'd love to go back and listen to old episodes but it's very intimidating - there's just so much to choose from.

Nap Ghost
I drink vodka on the rocks if it's nice enough.

1998-2007 is the Golden Era in my opinion. Stuttering John, Jackie, KC, Artie, 9/11 and the post 9/11 discussions, Gary still in the studio, and the best group of regular wack packers, and flowing into the modern era version with JD and Richard, (gently caress Sal).

I've been listening since spring '94.
