Switched back to 5/3/1 this week max set of squats at 275...15 reps. Get owned, barbell. Then a 45lb plate owned me when I was putting my weights up after squats, and tweeked my lower back on the right side. I was still able to work through it for the rest of my leg stuff, and we'll see how it is tomorrow.

Around this time last year, a 165 pound barbell owned me because I twisted around with it on my back to see where the squat box was. I couldn't walk for a few days and it took 2 months for me to fully recover. It was awful. Back injuries are awful. Deadlift day. All weights are kg 2x6x70 5x100 5x120 5x140 3x160 3x3x180 3x5x170 3x6x140 bent over barbell rows 3x10x70 My hands are ruined.

About 26 months ago I started working out. 6'2" and weighed about 170. I could barely bench press 45 pound DBs. Made SOME gains by pretending I knew what I was doing. Started the Big But Boring variation of 5/3/1 about 4 months ago and have seen a ton of success. Re-assessed my maxes this week, and I hit 240 on bench, 150 on standing overhead press, 305 on deadlifts, and 285 on squats. Weigh 200 pounds now. Best feeling in the world seeing all that gym time start to pay off some.

strength/powerlifting stuff (wendler's 5/3/1) for the big movements coupled with a body building routine (hill's y3t program). I recently started doing crossfit/hiit again and I'm slowly adding running/hiking back into my regiment. I put on some serious weight and strength just by eating right and getting rest and doing just the y3t program alone. I think the things outside the gym werew what really helped. 40lbs in 4 months, yo.

Now that the FDA made everybody take DMAA out of their preworkouts you're better served by just taking some powdered creatine daily and slamming an energy drink before you leave for the gym. Maybe look into beta alanine and arginine if you feel like getting fancy.

Check this and follow it to a T: http://www.startingstrengthtraining.com/workouts/ and http://www.startingstrengthtraining.com/diet/ and http://www.startingstrengthtraining.com/diet/supplements/ I know it says don't do extra work, but you're in the military and you're expected to do pfts every now and then. Make sure to keep up on that by doing the pft exercises 2-3 days a week. You don't have to do max effort full length pft poo poo all the time, but doing a few sets of pullups/pushups, situps/crunches, and a run/bike/swim anywhere from 1/4 - full size of your pft course is a good way to be ready to get a great score come game day. You could do a few sets of each (with a short 30 second-1 minute rest between sets) and a short run on the listed training days, or do them in between. Trust me, if you don't keep up on it, your pft will suffer even if you're a beast in the gym. Every now and then (like once every month or two) do a max effort pft or 1/2 length pft on your own. Of course, if you're a pft stud, keep doing what you're doing because it obviously works. Fart Sandwiches posted:Pick up heavy thing. Put it down. Next time pick up heavier thing. Eat food. Or not. This is really going to help though, one of my biggest sources of confusion came from the supplements, especially since they appear to be very expensive. I didnt want to throw money away. The way days are split up in that workout will help loads too. Thanks dude.

Body dysmorphia is a pretty good pre-workout. Just look in the mirror and call yourself a weak, tiny, fat bitch until you feel motivated. Probably as dangerous/unhealthy as any pre-workout supplement in the long run, but its free.Pandasmores posted:Eh, I dont care about the pft any more, just doing bare minimum even though on my own I do more. Sweet baby Jesus, my legs are loving done. Haven't lifted in two months then had the bright idea to do 5x5 high bar squats and 3x8 romanian deadlifts with my new Romaleo 2s. Surprised I made it back to the barracks, much less up the stairs to my room, without a fireman's carry or crutches.

Yeah, for the army think 1940's era calisthenics, which was modernized a few years back too include some Jazzercise, with no real warm ups or cool downs that have any real effectiveness. And then running. Lots, and lots of running. And then rucking. All of these things which then add up into an injury fueled nightmare, despite medical saying NO NO DEAR GOD STOP THAT poo poo PLEASE but no one is ever held accountable so it will continue until the end of time.

Wow, that really sounds like a nightmare. There was an article called "Why the army wants me weak" on starting strenght which critisized heavily military pt and how it does not prepare men for the kind of fitness needed on combat. I watched some documentaries about navy seals and rangers and green berets and what not and what they did seemed like the unhealthiest thing for any human beings to do, I have no idea how anybody's body could take that, tremenduous athletes or not. People break themselves for playing soccer, let alone for running million miles in combat boots with hundred pounds tied to their backs. On the thread topic though: my local police academy's fitness test requires me to run 1,5km/0,93 miles in less than 6 minutes to get maximum points. I haven't run in years, just done judo, caslisthenics and weight training. How should I approach this goal? I have one year time to train.
