I AM A SICK DOG.... I am a spiteful dog. I am a wild dog. I believe my liver is diseased, perhaps because I drank some of the yellow tapwater. However, I know nothing at all about my disease, and do not know for certain what ails me. I don't consult a vet for it, and never have, though I have a respect for medicine and veterinarians. Besides, I am extremely superstitious, sufficiently so to respect medicine, anyway (I am well-educated enough not to be superstitious, having once attended a prestigious doggie daycare facility, but I am superstitious). No, I refuse to consult a vet from spite. That you probably will not understand. Well, I understand it, though. Of course, I can't explain who it is precisely that I am mortifying in this case by my spite: I am perfectly well aware that I cannot "pay out" the vets by not consulting them; I know better than anyone that by all this I am only injuring myself and no one else. But still, if I don't consult a vet it is from spite. My liver is bad, well -- let it get worse! I have been going on like that for a long time -- possibly twenty years, possibly only a few hours.

If there's a real emergency in these buildings everyone is hosed. All the doors lock and unlock at random. Can't find the fire hose because it's hidden in someone's bathroom. Bust through a door only to fall through 5 floors of tarp. The fire exit is just painted on the wall. Only hope is a tiny window, but its 10 feet off the ground.
