I submitted a request for a refund based on system performance. The game was just running sluggish all the time, and I'm going to need a PC upgrade before I can really play.

I'm just barely below all the minimum requirements and its a real bummer. My PC was badass 5 years ago, haha.

I dunno if I'm going to spot upgrade or just rebuild from scratch with my case and PSU we'll see.

I am running 8GB on windows 7 with a 670GTX and an old I7 I got in the Intel bundle 3 or 4 years ago. I can run everything on high at 1900X1080 with no problems, except for a few weird slowdowns at random. I thought maybe I needed to upgrade my ram but if your still getting it with 16GB it must just be a game issue.

Here are some basic harvesting tests:

2, +2 Keen-Eye Band (3.1 Discovery)
0 Harvest Bonus
Heavy Copper Axe (Legendary)
(84 Speed, 98 Damage, 1 Resource Rating)

1001 Burled Wood
15493 Plain Wood

2, +2 Keen-Eye Band (3.1 Discovery)
0 Harvest Bonus
Heavy Gold Axe (Rare)
(79 Speed, 90 Damage, 6 Resource Rating)

1008 Burled Wood
15057 Plain Wood

2, Ring of Bounty (20 Harvest Bonus)
0 Discovery
Heavy Copper Axe (Legendary)

1013 Burled Wood
25003 Plain Wood

All gathering is done on the largest tree type.

Based on my limited sample size, this means:
  • Currently, Resource Rating (tier of the gathering tool) has no direct effect on gathering. (Higher tiers still have higher base stats)
  • Harvest Bonus increases the quantity of the base resource gathered and has no effect on proccing a rare gather such as Burled Wood.
  • Harvest Bonus stacks additively. 20 Harvest Bonus means 20% more basic resources gathered.
  • Discovery increases the rate of gathering rare resources and has no effect on the base resource.
  • Discovery also stacks additively. 4 Discovery means 40% more rare resources.
  • Multiple sources of Discovery are listed as giving diminishing returns in the stat sheet, but actual gathering says otherwise. Item description rounds to whole numbers; the stat sheet is accurate.
  • Conjecture: I think 'Rare' resources that are gathered directly instead of proccing such as some gemstones or marble benefit from Harvest Bonus, not Discovery.
  • I think Discovery has the same effect on other procced rare resources such as elemental ores and Coal.

Harvest bonus is pretty clearly increasing the amount of Burled wood you're getting since it's the same as the when you have discovery, basically it looks like if you had farmed 15k plain wood you would have gotten 600 burled wood. So the 3.1 discovery increased your Burled from 600 to 1000 roughly a 60% increase off 3.1 discovery (I feel like I'm doing something horrifically wrong here)*.

I don't think it's diminishing returns on the discovery but the item only displays integers when the item actually has decimal places. My friend made 3 of the lowest rings and they gave 1.03 and 1.022 and 1.01 and they added up perfectly fine. He's now using a +4 and a +5 and they add up to 8.25 because they are actually 3.65 and 4.6 individually.

Resource rating is also tier level, I believe.

*I think I'm not correctly accounting for the harvest bonus, we don't know how it's affecting burled wood gather rate I don't think. We'd need a test with no harvest to see if burled wood goes up or stays constant with harvesting.

I should have stated my procedure. I chopped the largest trees until I acquired 1000 burled wood. Burled Wood is a constant here. You can see how much is gathered by comparing the ratio of Burled to Plain Wood.

You're correct on this. I knew items were rounded in their description but for some reason I forgot about this today.

Even with 3.1 Discovery, I think what I said still holds water:
Say I got 1k Burled / 15.5k Plain for the sake of napkin math.

If I didn't wear 31% Discovery, I would have to gather 31% more Plain Wood to receive the same amount Burled:
15.5 * 1.31 = 20.305

On top of that, not only would I have to gather 31% more Plain Wood. But since I'm wearing 20% Harvest Bonus in the 3rd test, I'm also gathering 20% more Plain Wood:
20.305 * 1.2 = 24.366

Assuming I'm somewhat correct, 25003 to 24366 is a 2.6% margin of error. And I really don't want to gather anymore burled wood without Discovery.

You can't really use it to make thin things. Otherwise I don't really see an issue with it.

Also the paint tool is terrible. You either paint with the 1x1 voxel or you're painting depth as well and absolutely burning through whatever resource you're painting. It's way easier to paint flat surfaces with the selection tool and just place a 1 voxel deep rectangle on whatever you're wanting to paint.

How did you expect it to work? You either paint a surface, or you can select a weirdly shaped object and convert it all at once without filling in the empty space around it like you would with add.

I would expect it to paint only the surface, not x voxels deep. It should be called the replacer tool.

It's good for a few things. One unadvertised feature is it makes a great level. Lets say you have to columns and want to put a light on each column at the same height but they are really far apart. If you use a 1 voxel thick line tool on one and connect the other the only place it will let you connect them will be at exactly the same height on the other one. I use one voxel thick line tool lines all the time as construction lines.

Also if you use the 3x3 voxel line took at angles like 30~60 degrees you will get pretty good results.

Patch notes:

quote:

:siren: • Burled wood planks now require only 60 burled wood logs to craft (down from 100). Some people may wonder why this gets top billing on today’s update notes… Other people completely understand. :siren:
• We have completely overhauled the claim placement. The previous version and display were difficult to understand when an island became saturated with claims and finding an open spot that was available was almost impossible. We will continue to iterate on the new version but wanted to get it out to everyone to help them find open claims in the world.
• In order to fix an issue with people generating infinite resources, we now will only allow people to build outside of their claims using dirt. No mud pies, please.
• The Salvage button on the UI has changed! It now works as a Delete Item area. Simply drag and drop any item from your inventory to this part of the window and it will prompt you to delete the item. When Salvaging gets added back to the game, it will be part of crafting and will have to find a new home. You can no longer drag and drop items in the world to delete them.
• Fixed an issue that could send you to random parts of an island when teleporting between islands or worlds.
• If you activate a tool on the action bar, it will now appropriately highlight.
• The Founder’s Pickaxe will now keep the particles with it rather than letting them trail behind sometimes
• You can now type numbers (instead of having to use the up/down buttons) to set the desired number when splitting stacks of items or when crafting multiple items.
• The compass on the map now rotates to show you the correct orientation of the world.
• You can no longer delete a claim unless you have room in your inventory for all the items on it and the claim flag that will be returned to you.
• Fixed an issue where placing voxels could accidentally force a character “outside” of the world.
• Items dropped anywhere on the Hero window will now auto-equip in the appropriate slot.
• Bringing up the map no longer unequips your harvesting tool.
• There is now music on the loading screen and in character create/select.
• Fixed an issue that would cause you to “glide” up slopes when you jumped when running up a steep hill.
• Escape should now close UI windows as intended.
• The displayed count of items in a stack will now update as you open/consume those items.
• “Grid Mode” now affects healing, smoothing, painting and use of the line tool.
• Autorun (Numlock) will now turn off if you attempt to move forward or backward.
• Crafting categories should no longer collapse while crafting.
• People can no longer harvest trees on a claim. Tree houses are once again safe!
• The grappling hook will no longer glow at night.
• Props should now work correctly with add/delete/pickup and undo/redo.
• Claims will now automatically template themselves when you delete them. This can fail if you already have a large amount of voxels templated. Known issues: This template will include procedural props and if you have too many templates, it may exceed the amount allowed to be templated and fail. These will be fixed as soon as we can.
• We’ve added some functionality to the Evac to Safety command from the Main Menu. If you get stuck on someone’s claim without any way to remove yourself (pesky pit traps), if you use this command it will move you to a nearby location that should be safe!
