The first two episodes (the pilot especially) aren't really enough to judge show on. It gets better as it goes on and pretty much peaked with the last or latest season at which point Larry is purestrain George Costanza. All of season 7 is built around a one-off Seinfeld reunion show which at the very least is amazing if you're a Seinfeld fan.

I happened to have enjoyed Seinfeld from the first episode. Not necessarily the storyline, but at least the characters were fun and interesting. Larry and his wife and agent all just seem annoying and petty and huge human pushovers. I'll check out some of season 7 and then make my way back near season 2 if it catches my fancy. I've just heard so many good things about it that I want to give it a fair shake before I decide to disregard it completely.

Say what you will about MadTV but their parodies were spot-on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QmSYZJnp2AE When watching Curb, keep a few things in mind: 1. The show is generally unscripted with only the 'general scene idea' outlined. They know how a scene will end, but most of the dialogue is ad-libbed. 2. Larry David is a crotchety George- and was based off of him. 3. Much like Seinfeld, the show mainly deals with social faux pas/customs. -- here's a few examples of the show's humour https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHSIYGP0l_w https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbIlmYEzlYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=twnEWSfDjFY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxadhjsy1UI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foghjPNshM4 Every episode is essentially, "Was that wrong? Should I not have done that?" CaptainHollywood fucked around with this message at 03:54 on Feb 11, 2014 |

I think one of my favorite ever Larry moments is in season 7 when he has to stop and really, really think and consider the pros/cons for awhile before going back and telling that NBC executive information that will literally save his life. He was actually actively considering letting a man die just because the guy had slightly annoyed him a little earlier.

CaptHollywood, I wasn't aware it's mostly unscripted like that, I think that's whatadds to my botherment a lot of the time, everything just seems so...awkward or extended, but in a forced way. And that MadTV skit really hit the mark as far as my experience was concerned - just not as racist. Eh, I'll give it a pass unless someone physically forces me to watch it, I suppose. vvv - I'll check that one out, thanks. Drifter fucked around with this message at 04:12 on Feb 11, 2014 |

I love Curb, but I never watch season one, it's just not nearly as funny as the later seasons that have a season long storyline. I only watched the Seinfeld season of Curb, but it kind of bothered me that Larry always went out of his way to be a total rear end to everyone else, in a way that George never did. Is it one of those shows where you're supposed to hate the main character?

Larry is inherently pretty unlikeable and an rear end in a top hat, but everyone around him tends to be even worse of an rear end in a top hat, and more often than not, even when Larry does or says something kind of horrible, deep down you know he's right. It's also a really funny show.

I was given an HBO sampler DVD once that featured the pilot episode of Flight of the Conchords and "The Doll" from season 2 of Curb Your Enthusiasm (7th episode of the season). It's an episode that stands on its own, represents the series as a whole pretty well, and is really really funny. Try that one.

This thread made me go watch some episodes of S7 of Curb again and I really think if there's one scene that defines Larry's character, it's when Larry is in a position to give a guy he dislikes lifesaving information about a disease he has and considers the outcomes of whether or not he should do it, one of the outcomes being him at the guy's funeral and smugly shrugging at his corpse like "well, what are you gonna do?" He ultimately flips a coin and ends up saving the guy's life. Amazing.

Did they make a conscious decision to change Kramer from the...weird creepy neighbor guy who is only sort of a friend to an eccentric full member of the group? Was it just an evolution of Michael Richards' acting? It seems like it was maybe after season 1 (or maybe after season 2) that it changed.
