I've read all the official manga and literature that's been translated. For doujins I've only read a smattering though. Curiosities of Lotus Asia was kind of difficult to get through, but I loved Cage in Lunatic Runagate. Very introspective, it really helped develop the Imperishable Night cast. For me the most enjoyable mangas are Forbidden Scrollery, the Three Fairies cycle and Inaba of the Moon and Inaba of the Earth. (I know that last one wasn't written by ZUN though) On one hand I would like to see more fantasy adventure stuff, but I don't think ZUN is interested in writing manga like that, when he can make games instead.

a cartoon duck posted:It took a long time until someone stepped up to translate Hopeless Masquerade To be fair, Hopeless Masquerade was delayed mostly because of technical problems. As we've heard in this thread, Tasofro are apparently some pretty lovely programmers. The text itself was done on the wiki within a week. I should know, since I did most of it. Krysmphoenix posted:That said, I agree that the official stuff should have more interest with regards of being translated. About the only reasonable excuse I can think of why more people aren't jumping on that wagon is that someone already has been translating the official stuff and has claimed dibs, whereas for the doujin some translators might go "Hey, I found this, no one's going to claim dibs, let's do it!" Unfortunately this excuse doesn't work since the only reason I "called dibs" on Wild and Horned Hermit is because the previous group was like 5 chapters behind (10 months). ikaragu posted:I read them, and I like them some of the time, but I find myself wishing they would go deeper into the fun fantasy stuff. Wild and Horned Hermit started off pretty promising with Kasen squashing ghosts and acting like she was up to something, but a lot of the time it's just Reimu and friends hanging around the shrine explaining stuff at length, which makes Gensokyo seem like a pretty boring place where not much happens most of the time. The fairies manga were pretty similar, and Forbidden Scrollery has lots of cool fantastical elements but also threatens to go that way. The only Touhou manga where the characters did go off on a fantasy adventure was Silent Sinner in Blue, and from what I understand everyone hated that (and I don't blame them given the danmaku battle section - some of the individual spells were cool, but the whole thing just took forever and went absolutely nowhere). I can understand that. It bugs even me that ZUN keeps teasing us with Kasen's backstory/secret plan while keeping it completely irrelevant. I'd be pretty sad if he felt like he couldn't delve into it until the end of the comic or something. Cage in Lunatic Runagate is probably ZUN's best work overall.

I'd consider reading official manga if I knew where to find it. Other than that I mostly have Hang In There Kogasa-san and Hang in There Kogasa-chan on my daily webcomics check.

They should be linked to under the appropriate page of the touhouwiki, which is a one-stop-shop for all your Touhou... um... citation needs. I would recommend ignoring the summaries and just going straight for the text dumps/translations, but I'm crazy. The official manga are also usually hosted wherever manga is ordinarily found. Why do I need to cite things from Touhou so often...? Clarste fucked around with this message at 23:59 on Feb 12, 2014 |

The official mangas are likely to also be on any one of numerous scanlation sites. That's where I read Hermit, Scrollery, and the Inabas. I have no interest in Sinner in Silent Blue, and I think I read half of The Three Fairies? I'm really bad with keeping up with manga as it's translated for various reasons. I don't have any particular preference over it or fan stuff, and most of the fan stuff I read is from it being brought up in this thread or literally tripping over it looking for something else. Say whatever you'd like about the quality of the fan comics, I just think its cool as hell that touhou has lead to atleast a fraction of nonpornographic doijin market making it to the internet.

Because it's horrible. Basically Wikia kept making the layout of the site more and more obnoxious so more ads could get shoved on, the people actually responsible for running the Wiki had enough of it and ditched the place. With it now run by corporate managers, the wikia wiki quickly became a cesspool as any sort of moderation stopped and vandalism reigned supreme.

In addition to all that's been mentioned, the content of the wikia is literally just copy-pasted from the touhouwiki whenever someone gets around to it, so it's less up to date. I can't think of a reason to use it.

I translated/edited large sections of pretty much every text-intensive book (BAiJR, PMiSS, GoM, SoPM, CiLR and CoLA) on the wiki (the good one), but that was back when I had plenty of free time and I could go those by myself for the most part. I wouldn't mind helping out with the comics, but the process seems much more complicated and I never bothered to actively seek out other people to work with. I wouldn't mind helping you out in the future though, Clarste. I own all of the official books, including the very first Three Fairies book.

Not sure how a fairly major(?) Chinese fan character made it up there, but it's still much less than what you'd see on the Wikia.

Heck, I don't even own photoshop: I just downloaded a free open-source thing I found on google. I guess the hard part would be where you have to tear out all the pages of your book in order to scan them properly, but luckily I've been spared that. Having a second or third eye go over the translation would be very helpful though. I'm sure you're way better than me at this.

Personally I have to continually resist the urge to make her talk like a cowboy. Anyway, I'm probably not the best person to reassure you about editing sound effects, since I leave most of them alone myself... Most of them are probably easier than WAHH's habit of having plaid speech bubbles though; I'm just too lazy to do the obvious sound effects.

I'll use it. I had been messaging someone on Tumblr and asked if their blog was spoiler free for a certain series. They told me "Oh yes, I just checked and there are no spoilers." I look at their blog and within one minute I see fanart that strongly suggests two of my favorite characters are going to die. I know it's just fanart, but there were haloes involved. NEVER TRUST TUMBLR That felt good. Back on topic, I'm working on a 1cc of PCB for the first time. I wanted to use SakuyaA, but... is it just me, or is Merlin a lot harder than the other two Prismriver sisters? I've switched to ReimuA because I still find the homing bullets help me on stage 4, but she's a lot weaker...

If you're having trouble with Merlin, just manipulate the fight to battle the sister you have the easiest time with. Also Reimu A being weak just means you actually have to dodge.

Never pick Homing Reimu when you can pick Needle Reimu except when you want an additional challenge. Anyway which part of stage 4 gives you enough trouble to consider homing bullets? The stage is pretty daunting until you realize that most of it is basically directly aimed at you and can be streamed, plus the spiny spinny things in the middle of the stage only shoot when they die, so they're pretty easy to re-stream as well. Once you got the streaming part down stage 4 isn't too bad. Also Seija's got the best gimmick, gently caress the haters.
