I do have one question: Do we know if he got the drugs legally? I know it's morphine and ambien, but I figured that might be more readily available to a professional athlete than it would the average lay person. Or am I completely naive about that?

I would guess no- Ambien you need a scrip for, and morphine has a pretty high potential for abuse and such. Its possible he had a scrip for Ambien, and had someone who could hook him up with the morphine.

Honestly the whole west coast is pretty lenient about weed to begin with. Oregon and Cali both have easy to obtain medical permits and people just walk around smoking joints anyway because no one calls them on it. I've never smelled so much weed as the time I walked around San Francisco.

I somehow don't think it would be too hard for a former pro athlete with a recognisable name to find a doctor willing to write him a prescription for sleeping pills and pain killers. poo poo it seems like every couple of months there's another expose' about players using and abusing copious amounts of drugs to dull their pain. There's probably a whole laundry list of docs willing to play ball rolling around locker rooms. How he got the drugs isn't exactly the hard part here.
