Just watched this..holy crap what a great episode. The ramp truck running the course and attempting to stop was the funniest thing I've seen in a long time.

And it wasn't like the brakes were too weak to do anything, they were perfectly capable of making the wheels not turn anymore... that just didn't have anything to do with where the rest of the truck was going.

The rear brakes didn't seem to be doing a whole lot either.

They should have done all the ramp truck tests with one of their non-running projects on the back.

Pretty sure that 232 and a 401 share the same bellhousing pattern, too. And the 401 mount arms might even bolt to the stock motor mount locations.

AMC was great like that.

I was quite surprised at how well the Gremlin actually did, just 4 seconds slower than a new Kia, and that's with a worn out straight-6, worn out suspension, and even more hosed brakes.

Anyway, yeah, that was a fantastic episode, drat. I didn't think there could be anything better than the Roadkill dog, but two dogs certainly was :3:. Also liked how poo poo, objectively speaking, all the project cars turned out to be. But I know I'd dd any one of them rather than the Kia.

To be fair to the project cars, I think a lot of it had to do with tire choice (or rather lack of tire choice).

Also, as was noted, most (if not all) of the project cars would be much faster at an auto-x with simple suspension maintenance, never mind upgrades. Those guys spend almost all their time on the power train, where on an auto-x, power is secondary to suspension for the most part.

Not to mention the snow tires on the Camaro (and the Ranchero too? it definitely looked pretty slidey.)

But yeah, the Charger only being 3 seconds off the Kia with, effectively, no suspension is impressive on its own merits. The macho grande did pretty well too considering the dynamic counterweight hanging off the rear.

The next question is, would you pay $14K for a Gremlin? If you could jump into a time machine, go back to 1972 and even hint that a Gremlin would someday be worth this kind of dough, you壇 probably be met with gales of laughter.
Looks like that author has never heard of inflation because $3000 in 1972 is approximately $17,000 in 2014 :ironicat:

I almost got a factory purple '72 Gremlin X as my first car, but my dad put a stop to that as he figured parts would be impossible to come by. Oh well.

Given how I flogged the gently caress out of my first car it was probably for the better, but still, factory purple. :allears:

So today I was bored and have been watching a bunch of Russian dash cam videos. I have learned something new - as long as you turn your hazards on, it's perfectly ok to form a convoy behind an emergency vehicle and pass everyone in the wrong lane.

The Camaro didn't have snow tires. They were Continental Extreme Contact DWS, DWS stands for dry wet snow, i've used them on several cars and they handle well but that car has too much power for a tire that small. On actual snow tires it would have been crazy to say the least.

Sup fellow father-AMC-cockblocker dude! :respek:

I almost had a cherry AMX/390/4 speed car as my first car purchase and dad said no, but not for parts reasons, it was for "18 year old in a short wheelbase muscle car" reasons instead.

Same day also saw him refuse to sign on a TT, 6 speed 300ZX, as well. Thanks, dad!* Keep in mind I had a short cab, short bed S-10 with a 4.3 and 4.10 rear as my DD, which was probably as fast as either of the two I wanted, up to "fast enough that you'll die" speed, anyway.

Well they said snow tires. :colbert:

Point stands, I'd like to see it on r-comps or the like.

That wasn't quite as bad as it first looked, but I'd still say it's a good thing she didn't go for the JDM model, that probably would have been rough if it was RHD.

Um wow that is impressive and unexpected, I've seen mocked up non running 6 rotors but this is something else, I wonder how the 2 rotor banks synchronize the output.

edit: that is 3 rotor banks of 4...now i'm even more confused.
