Hey, just on the slavery thing: Shouldn't Haiti get the honor of abolishing it first, at least in the western hemisphere? I hardly see how the US should get that (even in the institutional chattel sense), since they only got to more or less abolish it for good because they maintained it far longer than anyone else.

We beat Brazil (abolished in 1888) by a few decades. In fact, some die-hard Confederates left the States after the Civil War and moved to Brazil specifically because they still allowed slavery. IIRC, their descendants still have a "Dixie Days" celebration every year.

Not sure how the current state of things can last for long. It has been moving with great speed even as we speak.

I think we’ll probably need a NATIONAL REFERENDUM to DEFINE WHAT MARRIAGE IS in our constitution.

It’s going to be very hard to exist with some states recognizing some marriages and others not.

“Texas needs to secede.”

Texas sends more in taxes to the fed.gov than it receives.

We have more than enough income from oil and gas than we need (and it is expanding at a rapid rate and will continue to do so for quite a while).

We have ample agriculture, so we can feed ourselves...plus we have a bunch of fishing off the coast and in our many lakes.

We certainly can defend ourselves - the federal equipment that our taxes paid for would be perfectly adequate. We can build nukes at the Pantex plant, rockets to sit them on in Houston, and have at least 50 million guns (and people who know how to use them).

We can thus feed and take care of ourselves, and have shown an ability to do just that for well over 175 years. Frankly, I don’t know why we remain in the decaying and disintegrating Union. I’m sure that several of the surrounding states would join us - heck, we’d make a pretty good-sized country, one with traditional American values that would prosper and grow mighty, while Lieberal-land on the coasts and the upper Midwest would continue to sink into the muck and mire.

You could cobble together a very decent country if you carved off Nevada, California, Oregon, Washington, the Great Lakes states and the northeast. Colorado has turned blue but would have little power within a Red States of America. I’d keep West Virginia and reattach it to most of Virginia, minus the DC suburbs. In terms of military installations, the new country would have a nice mix of Air, Navy, Army and Marines bases. Of course you’d have to build a much longer wall to cover both the southern and western borders.

Even a national referendum that came out in FReep's favor would be unconstitutional. There'd have to be a Constitutional Amendment to hold back the tide now, and that ship sailed ~1992.

To begin with, I don’t know how patriot attorneys argued this case for Texas.

That said, the BIG problem with these unconstitutional decisions by activist judges is that patriot attorneys don’t seem to be getting clued in on 10th Amendment-protected state sovereignty in law school. And if such is the case, then patriot attorneys can’t effectively argue 10A issues. The same thing possibly happened in Roe v. Wade.

Next, one remedy to this situation is that patriots need to start putting pressure on federal lawmakers to require federal judges to reference specific constitutional clauses to substantiate why a given issue is constitutional or not constitutional in their official decisions. No more of this PC “constitutional” or “unconstitutional” garbage from activist judges.

Finally, the activist judge in this case is wrongly ignoring that the states have never amended the Constitution to expressly protect so-called gay rights. So the states are free to make laws which discriminate against gay issues, imo, as long as such laws don’t also unreasonably abridge constitutionally enumerated rights. Such judges are arguably taking advantage of low-information patriot attornies who cannot effectively argue 10A issues.
