So what is NXT's USP within the WWE stable? Smackdown is\was the family friendly show and Raw was the more OTT and hardcore show as I remember it.

NXT is the WWE's farm for Indy Darlings and Up and Comers. Kayfabe wise, it's meta as hell. WWE guys show up and sometimes act outside their heel/face affiliations, sometimes not. Zayin and Cesaro have some indy history together, hence the hug.

That's part of it, but the whole angle was Cesaro being unstoppable in NXT until Zayne got a "fluke" win on him. Then they had the 2/3 falls match that Cesaro won. After that, Cesaro was dismissive of Zayne and said Zayne didn't even deserve to have another match with him, would ignore Zayne in interviews, etc. So, even though Cesaro won the match at Arrival, Zayne earned Cesaro's respect. (That's the gist of it. Somebody who watched NXT more before the network could probably expand on it)
