Man did the Dana Gould thread fall into the archives already? There's a new episode, and he has Blaine, Ken and Scott (the DM) from Nerd Poker on to talk about D&D. Those guys are great, and Nerd Poker is a really fun show.

Oh and there's someone who used to work as a dominatrix, they talk about S&M or something too.

Ninety-one? There are ninety other "Tiger Drivers"? Do any involve actual tigers, or driving?
New JJHo and Dead Authors (thank god it's back) on the same day is such a delight. Anne Frank did not disappoint.

I have to say that they're pretty close to running the "guest mistakes Wells for Jules Verne" joke into the ground, I do hope they have Verne on as a guest at some point to put the whole beef between them to rest.

A showdown with Verne is inevitable. One day, it will happen!

PFT usually records these episodes really far in advance and announces UCB recording dates on twitter, so the guest list is pretty easy to piece together (for example, the next guest will probably be Thomas Lennon as William Faulkner).

He hasn't mentioned recording with Verne yet, so that "meeting" won't happen for a long time.

This was a great episode with a little bit of something for everyone. D&D talk, the history of Godzilla vs King Kong, and "stomping on nuts" as the phrase that pays.

I hope "Jane" returns, I could have listened to her for hours.

Andy Kindler on Todd Glass? I'm going back in.

I could understand if people don't like Andy Kindler (I didn't get him for a long time), but he really won me over. His appearance on Fitzdog Radio last week was oddly great.

I'm listening to the first episode of James Bonding and this exchange really got me:

Matt Gourley - 'We just saw Fred Durst playing backgammon at a restaurant'.
PFT - 'Was that cockney rhyming slang?'

I just dove into this today, starting with Dr No. If you do check out the Dr. No ep (with PFT) you may want to watch this:

They spend a few minutes discussing it on the podcast.

I'm listening to the "Live and Let Die" ep and it's pretty fun. But yeah, I don't get the Moore love. I need to watch more bond films.

I just listened to the Skyfall episode and Gourley said that Daniel Craig is his favourite Bond, but Moore was the Bond when he was in his teens and first became a fan of the movies so for that reason he has a senitmental connection to him.

Yeah, their opinions are personal and idiosyncratic. But when it comes to James Bond, the most important question is "what James Bond movie was in theaters when you were 12?" After someone answer that, all of their James Bond opinions suddenly make more sense.

Moore fan here. I did a marathon viewing of all the Bond films after Quantum of Solace came out, and read some of the behind-the-scenes details on each one. In real life and on screen, Roger Moore seemed to be the one who enjoyed playing the role the most. The more you read about Connery, the more watching his Bond is like being stuck in an office with someone who hates his job. Dalton didn't really get to go into the role in much depth, the Brosnan films were just insane SFX, and Lazenby is just sort of a footnote.

I actually think Craig is doing the best Bond, but those three movies are so different from the first stretch that it's hard to compare.

I think that if I looked at it objectively, Daniel Craig is probably the best Bond, but Connery is definitely the most Bond. And it was only in the later movies that he was going through the motions - for the first three, he's in pure Hollywood movie star mode, and it's great.

I also love the dated ideas of what was glamorous in the old movies. I think it was Gourley in the Dr. No episode who pointed out that they use the Bond music sting when he's... Flying on a passenger plane, then again when he's checking into a hotel.

I've only seen Casino Royale in it's entirety, watching that many movies is a bit of a daunting task, but I am a fan of Batman and Sherlock Holmes which share a similar sensibility in that they're about crazy adventures with a flawed protagonist who fights bizarre villains, so I do want to learn more about the James Bond franchise. Can Gourley's podcast serve as a good gateway into that, or is it one of those things where I'll only get value from it if I've seen the series? If it's the former I might give it a listen.

If you are aware of Bond as a cultural icon and many of his tropes, you should be OK; but I won't lie having (ever) seen the films they are discussing will make it better. Give episodes 1 and or 2 a try and you should know if you will like it. Skip episode 5 the guests are awful. They keep ragging on how old and silly the movie looks and it gets very annoying. They have discussed redoing that episode it was so poorly received.

They say that listeners should watch the movies, but I don't think that's really true.

I would say that you should at least have seen a movie from the general time period they're talking about. Or at least one of each of the major Bond actors.

Episode 5 got better when they gave up on discussing the movie. The movie really pissed off the guests and they couldn't take the discussion anywhere else. It's too bad, because Goldfinger has A LOT to discuss that they never really got to.

I like the early moore films (the first 3), when he was spry enough to pull off bond swagger. He is still good in Moonraker but that movie is such a hosed up mess I don't even know. My favorite Bond film is The Living Daylights though so i'm in a minority among bond fans.

Adam Carolla's FundAnything campaign to fight Personal Audio LLC, the patent trolls who have started suing a few of the big podcasts, launched today: https://fundanything.com/en/campaigns/patenttroll

Even if you don't like his podcast, there's a good chance they'll be going after other ones in the future. The idea here is to fight the lawsuit in court and set a precedent rather than settle and let them keep suing others.

The physical reward tiers seem kinda excessive, I've seen Kickstarter projects get bitten in the rear end by offering too much stuff for too cheap and then realizing how much it costs to make and ship physical goods, but they've done another campaign in the past (for his movie Road Hard) so I'm assuming someone knows what they're doing.

Anyone listen to last week's You Made It Weird with some former Nickelodeon star? She talked a lot about her short-lived relationship with Detroit Piston Andre Drummond and how he sucked at kissing and just a lot of gossipy private stuff. Well, TMZ picked the story up yesterday and all of a sudden today, her nude pics leaked.

I'm not saying it was Andre... but then again, he did put up 17 points and 26 rebounds tonight so he's definitely feeling something.

I absolutely adore the idea of some soulless paparazzi type blog person having to sit through two hours of Pete Holmes rambling on and on. I hope that is someone's job, apathetically listening to Pete Holmes every Wednesday for the small chance of a marketable scoop. It must be like holy water to a vampire.
