If you know the field you want and can project a reasonable income in that field as well as expect employment, then taking on a student loan is a relatively sound strategy. I'm thinking some kind of trade (like plumbing) or medical tech skill (like MRI Technologist).

I do actually have a plan of sorts, I would go to school to get both CompTIA++ and Cisco certified, so I can work in a corporate environment as a tech specialist. I know it's a two year course, and I plan to move from LA soon. I actually want to go to college, but it's 1 part "a stop gap measure" and 1 part "something I've always wanted to do." I have personal interest in learning programming to make my own rogue-like but that is a side project and also won't make me any money. My plan was to enroll at the UoPX and get my Associates in Computer Technology with a shitton of certifications. Then get an IT job.

If you're in LA, I would be hella surprised if there weren't community colleges (probably with online classes) that you could do the same thing through for 20% of the cost. Go in and talk to the financial aid departments, they should be able to help you (assuming they're not incompetent). Given that your expected family contribution is zero, you should be able to get a good amount of help through the FAFSA; definitely get that poo poo filled out. Just don't do University of Phoenix; they're poo poo. Same with Devry. To give you an idea, for-profit schools make up 12% of college students, but 46% of defaults. You are much, much better off using the community college system, especially in California, because they make it relatively easy to transition between community colleges and the UC/CSU system (if you decided to get a four-year degree). Moving from LA may be a mistake, especially if you're planning to move out of state; I'm assuming you currently have residency in California...?

Tenuously, The thing is my Girlfriend and her family have been really kind and accepting of me, they live in Livermore and we've been doing long distance for 3 years. She is going to be moving to Davis to go to UC Davis, I want to move with her.

It's also online (not sure if they have physical locations also) and fully accredited, but is not-for-profit unlike Phoenix and Devry and the like. It's a hell of a lot cheaper too. I know there are a few goons that have gone through some of their IT programs and spoke highly of them.

Every for profit school is a total grift, and most have curriculums designed to make you fail so you have to pay again. My wife failed her vet tech course because she was injured and the radiology lab was inaccessible by wheelchair. No make up, no written equivalent, just gently caress the handicapped we need money. If I could change one thing in our lives, it would be without a doubt going to community college instead.

Also University College of University of Maryland. University of Phoenix is a terrible choice. Way too expensive for what you get. There are tons of scholarships specifically for people who have been foster children. Don't overlook those!

In regards to the heroin/orgasm button discussion on the last page, I can tell you guys from experience that heroin and other drugs don't feel anything at all like an orgasm, and in general it's not as intense either(rushes from shooting can be intense, but last only a few seconds). Imagine a super comfy chair and great mood in drug form and you have an idea. Whether or not that changes the comparisons, I'm not sure, but there you go.

Enroll at a 4-year then, get the degree you want, and hope you get a job in that field that pays well enough to support the crippling student loan debt you'll end up with. As mentioned above, go all out with doing scholarships, particularly those you may qualify for because of foster status and any potential minority/disability/etc factors you can think of. If you have a smidge of native american in your blood, for example, that can qualify you for a few. As someone who graduated with a lovely degree and lives well below the poverty line, I wish I had done that. Student loan debt is a crushing burden and it follows you through bankruptcy, etc. All that was mentioned as well. However, I will say a lot of the "destructive" properties of illegal drugs are caused by their illegality and stigma to begin with but I really don't want to start a derail about that and I'm definitely not saying they would be harmless otherwise. I guess it's a complicated situation really. As with drugs, the orgasm button's effects would depend a lot on the person too. For instance, a lot of the worst addicts are the ones who use mostly for self medication for depression, anxiety or whatever.

But having external antennas is useful, because if you're having trouble getting a good signal you can usually rotate and otherwise re-aim them to try to fix it.

I really enjoyed community college. If you're poor (or a early twenties, no income goon living with his parents like I used to be) the FAFSA (last I checked) will pretty much cover most to all of your expenses and then some. So that's two years of free to heavily subsidized college if you get good grades. Not to mention you can buy your textbooks with your FAFSA money and then sell them on craigslist at the end of the year. Correct me if I'm wrong goons but personally I've always preferred the external antennas because I always assumed simply getting a larger/better (whichever) antenna would expand the range, which I've never needed to do. My guess is some settings in the routers firmware (I think I'm using DDWRT at home) might have to be changed as well. I've also heard about people using can radios and old satellite dishes to make their routers/wireless NICs have very narrow but long range. Backstory: A friend of my wife is a foster mother, who is currently adopting one of the kids she fosters. The mother lost all parental rights last year. As far as anyone knows the birth mother has no idea who the foster mother is, and no one except the county social services should know both names. This is in California. Story: Two days ago the foster mother began receiving phone calls from 1-800 numbers and a 1-877 number. They were asking for the birth mother by name (ie: 'I need to speak to Jane Doe' where Jane Doe is the birth mother.) She told them that that wasn't her, and they demanded to know her name. She refused to give it (a little freaked out understandably) and asked them who they were. They refused to say who they were until she gave her name so she hung up. She said it sounded like a collections agency, but is freaked out that it could be someone the birth mother knows trying to get information on where the kid is. Is it legal for them to refuse to identify themselves before you identify? Is there any way she can make them stop without giving her name? Could someone actually be spoofing 800 and 877 numbers?

Eggs or other protein in the morning and, though it might be the last thing you want to do, exercise. Go for a run, ride a bike, hell just do jumping jacks for 20 min. Yeah I keep water next to the bed if I've been drinking. If I wake up in the night, I chug a glass of water. More than anything else I've tried, staying hydrated while drinking and after has been the key to not getting hungover.
